Boy am I dumb

I went to a farm field with my friend Joe and Phil. The field was where an old homestead was in the 1800s. We didn't do to good except for a few bits of hardware and buttons. I had found a couple of old rivets and figuring they were modern tossed them in the trash. Tonight i discovered they were probably Civil war era. while looking at a web page on old rivets. I just threw away a couple of artifacts to add to my collections. It seems what I lack in stupidity I make up with ignorance. Woe is me.

I don't remember if you did or not. I haven't emptied the bucket out yet. If you did let me know and I will try and find them for you. I got 2 eagle buttons from the field so those very well could have been CW era finds. I just couldn't believe that we hunted 3 different home sites and never found a coin. The last time Joe came over we hunted 3 different sites and found old coins at 2 of them. Most of them don't have a lot of coins but they at least have a couple. Maybe you guys can come back again. I'm getting ready to check out a site along the White river that was the site of a saw mill, a grist mill and I think 2 homes. The area is in woods and I don't know how thick the undergrowth is. I also have to talk to the property owner and see where he wants me to park when I go.

I did the same thing when I first got into detecting. I found a really old bullet and did not know what it was so I tossed it, later I found out it was very old.

Often difficult to tell junk from a keeper.

We've all been there! :( And we've all learned from our mistakes. HH to all, Nancy

All is not lost likely more where you found those.
You'll likely find more next dig around there.
