Bow echo urban totlot run...

mudpuppy

New member
Got up, made a pot of coffee, let the dog out, read the forums...a typical Mudpuppy morning so far..checked the weather radar, big bow echo out over the Lake and coming onshore, so I figured I'd get in underneath it and sweep some of the urban totlots!...Big weather keeps the bugs down, and by bugs, I dont mean mosquitoes!

We have a bad heroin outbreak here, shootings/murders/robberies all the time, been nearly impossible to get in and out of some of the totlots unnoticed no matter what the hour...so today I got into a half dozen and out with my Life and gear! Got 63 coins, for 5.25, running an 8.3cent average, which is about right...even on 10,000 coins I run that 8c average..junk cross and a few SS washers which can always be used..

F70, set at 40 sens...As as modicum of defense, I carried the Fpoint since to uninformed and churlish reprobates, it could be mistaken as some sort of cattleprod type stun weapon, and it buzzes like a yellowjacket when a guy turns it on!
Of course I had the screwdriver too, so I was heavily armed if somebody needed a hose clamp tightened or something! Nobody saw me, in and out and gone very quickly....so this little window of opportunity availed itself, and I succeeded in my endeavor....better than a morning on the boring empty big sand of the beach...bit exciting although a stupid way to hunt, sooner or later, being in those places will not come to any good for an old man...sort of like being on thin ice, keep moving and be ready to fall through, prepare your mind for it...I was feeling in the need of a possible adventure due to working the boring grind of the beach all month!..Felt good, makes a fellow feel more alive when death could be so close? This little pile of pocket change is a bit of a trophy to me in its own right...I am not advising any of my brothers to attempt this! Just sharing a hunt...like handling snakes, sooner or later, a guy gets bit....

There are some places that I just will not detect. Constantly looking over my shoulder ain't no fun at all. I don't want to make the evening news.

Nice bunch of coins you got there Mud. I'm glad you made out alive.

Nice bunch of finds there Mud. But I tell ya what. If you were my son and I found out were you were hanging out, I'd take the keys and ground your hind end, I wouldn't care what she looked like. :starwars:

You need one of those conceal carry permits, and you can stroll into the rogues neighborhood with confidence!:crylol:, 24/7!

You have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get a conceal carry permit and then you're greeted with a sign saying no guns allowed at the very place you really need a gun. It makes no sense at all, the thugs are carrying guns, but they didn't have to jump through any hoops. Our politicians are not all that bright.

Holy smokes mud....you live in a scary place, heroin outbreak, shootings/murders/robberies all the time.
My worst fear here is running into a skunk with my headphones on.....don't think I could stand all that excitement!
I don't lock my doors here during day light...but I do own a gun or two :)
Be safe lads....

Thanks guys! Yeah, a bit of extra excitement, and also good practice being fast and invisible..I have a decent spidey sense, and do not stop if something dont feel right, it has served me well...In the scheme of things, if you think about it, our forefathers risked more danger and hardship than this seeking riches...climbing the Chilkoot Pass comes to mind,...I'm sure when I do ultimately die, it will be rather boring and run of the mill....still, if a guy could pick the option, going down swinging coil, fists, and screwdrivers would be my preference!...of course the 'totlot' thing is sort of sissy, but hey, if a fellow manages to take a few with him, it will all balance out!

Ya know bugg ...................I don't think a few pennies, a small piece of jewelry, or maybe a silver coin is worth getting shot, mugged, or shooting someone over... Just saying...

Imagine the attorney fees, the hospital bills, and or the lawsuits that could, and would occur if you let that happen.( Shooting someone)........ or maybe being injured in a way you were incapacitated for life..

I think we have to use a little common sense in todays world of where, and when we detect.

I'm not particularly saying your wrong, but I am saying some common sense needs to be put in play..

Good finds mudd but not good enough to be robbed , the would be disappointed ya is it not wears that some of the best spots are in badd spots now ,

nice coin hunt mud! yep a good time to detect is early Sunday morning. All the gangbangers / druggies are recuperating from late Saturday night activities.

Mud welcome to my hunting world. Full moon they get a little snaky so get in and get out like your doing. On the ear headphones. I use Sportapro headphones from Koss. You can hear whats going on around you. Always detect facing but not looking at them. I use a 45 degree angle to them most of the time. Casual glance, notice what the group is doing. Run on gut feelings. Don't second guess, get out. Most of time they just want to be high and don't want to be bothered. They have their territory give it to them. Totlots usually teens smoking pot and drinking. I usually ask if it is ok to detect under them and around them when they are up on the platforms and walks. They do have a tendency to pee from up there so be warned. Remember you are dealing with people who have no structure or little in their live. So they are not predictable. You must flow, they will warn you when it is time to move. No demanding your rights just get moving. It is better that they are laughing at you as you are ridding away. It is a their way of life so honor it and let it be. Over 20 year driving in the hood...Z

I have to say it would be detrimental for me to detect areas with the punks hanging around...my mind still thinks it and its body will handle the abuse. As we all know, that's not the case. My cocky Phila attitude will get me in a bad situation as it has in the past...sometimes I made out alright, sometimes I didn't, but that was many moons ago. One wrong rebuttal or posture can start it... and I don't feel confident to be smart enough to back down after a certain point. So, while my head is cool, I will stay out of a potential hazard area,.. it's not worth it.

Those people are everywhere and sooner or later some of us will be put to the test. If you are like me and too old to run you need to carry. Some carry digging tools some carry Kimbers and digging tools. HH ::fisher::minelab::teknetics:
