Looking for help with a BH 550. Has constant sound no change with metal passed in front of coil. Anyone know what is wrong or anyone with a schemetic? Any help appreciated. Would love to take this detector back out in the field. Thanks.
The Bounty Hunter 550-d was my very first metal detector. I purchased it new in around 1980 for about 150.00. I used that detector for about a month in several old yards and found a few modern coins no deeper than an inch or so. This got old fast so I bought another new detector, a Fisher 1220x. The difference was night and day.... my first trip out with the 1220x to the local football field produced 2 walking liberty half dollars, a dateless standing liberty quarter, and a mercury dime along with various other modern coins.
I unloaded the Bounty Hunter for whatever I could get out of it and continued to find lots of good stuff with the 1220 until the 1260 came out in around 1982 and upgraded to it.
I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I wouldn't waste my time and energy trying to use the 550-d unless you are looking for coins laying on the surface, then it might find them.
If you want to find older deeper coins then buy a different detector because the Bounty Hunter isn't capable of it. This is my experience with this machine. Others may have had better luck with it than I did, but it left me cussing it and ready to wrap it around the nearest tree. good luck with your detector...............Roger
