Bounty Hunter Timeranger question

Hello, looking to purchase my first detector and what looking to get feedback on Bounty Hunter Timeranger. I understand that they are discontinued so is that a problem if I need replacement parts? I just hate passing up a good deal! I plan to do a variety of hunting with it. Thanks in advance.

First Texas Products will no doubt be happy to service this machine - limited only by the availability of components.

It's an older model that was top of the line in it's day. But so much has improved since the TR came out, that I would opt for a newer type myself. You may want to go to detecting.com and read the manual on the Time Ranger. It's not a beginners machine, IMO. It doesn't have a pinpoint feature either, which is important to most people.

I purchased one and had to have it repaired twice it comes with a 5 year warranty it is a pretty good detector !!!

....you have to remember that Ground Balancing/GroundTrac is only available in the AM mode. The ground balance on the TR doesn't transfer to programs 1-3, the discrimination modes. Other than the sniff and blanker (useless in my opinion) and the fact that meter settings take up 90% of the already small screen, for the same price, the Quick Draw Pro offers a better experience for first timers.

Who needs all those dials on the screen anymore? I want to see target information.

Time Ranger is a great deep seeking machine. As someone posted above there is in fact a no motion pin point mode in all metal, in fact it's pin point is extremely accurate. The Time Ranger has been replaced by the Titan 9000. Service is not a problem, my Time Ranger was acting odd and the simple repair was done promptly and returned in perfect operating condition. First Texas stands behind their products. I have been very seriously considering selling my Time Ranger. Before I post it on the classifieds If any one is interested just private message me and I will provide details, photos, and answer any questions.

I only remember the Titan line sold at KellyCo. Discovery line at Radio Shack. The Tek Titanium at Cabela's. Just silk screened Bounty Hunters and Teks.

For the price on amazon you cant beat the time ranger. The fact that it can be ground balanced and it also comes with a 4" and 8" coil it is unbeatable for the price. The quick draw pro is good but can not be ground balanced, in mineralized soil this is important.

In disc mode the QDP is faster recovery and deeper than the TR, but this could be due to a 2" larger coil as well.

The advantage of the TR is AM and less expensive coils. But it's AM mode doesn't utilize the TID either, like newer units.

It's worth $180 though. 15 years ago people paid $550 for them. But we also paid $2000 for computers that were slow by todays standards.

The recovery speed of the quick draw pro, the platinum and the land ranger pro, is i think as good or better than any machine out there at any price.

I was thinking the TimeRanger was maybe behind in the target ID area but it is not the case it actually works better at IDing targets than my Minelab X-Terra 70 and My Garrett GTI 2500 and about 6 of my other detectors called a Sackajawea silver dollar a 50 cent piece but my TR always hit it as a silver dollar that was pretty impressive !!! And I installed a 10.5 inch BH coil on it now it has some real depth much deeper than my Minelab X-Terra 70 , when I purchased it came with a 5 year warranty and First Texas has backed up my unit no problem !!!

Actually has a very good pin point, defined to a very small spot.
It's tid#'s are very good.Should have made it to g.b in disc.mode.
It's response to a target is very slow,at normal sweep speeds it does not respond until the coil is 6-7" past the target.
You have to go back very slow to I.D the target.
If trash is around it will not sound off because of the slow response time.
If it's clean ground it will do pretty good.
If the speed could be jacked up it would be a darn good unit.

An outdated process, for sure. The more it has to do (display, adjustments) the slower the target response. The Tracker IV is faster on response due to it's simplicity. It's why the newer processes (fratbros, F75/T2) are much faster even with displays. GB in disc would have slowed it down even more. Like older computers running Windows 95 compared to new ones running Windows 7.

Also noticed today that the sensitivity only works in all metal mode along with the ground balance,in disc.mode not a lot of control.
Mod time I guess.
