Bounty Hunter Platinum ??

Flintstone

Well-known member
Dose anyone use this detector? I never see anything about it. I was thinking about getting one for my wife to start with. They look like a nice detector, what do they compare to? Like F2,or Delta 4000, What?? Do they do a good job in parks and play grounds? Any info, thanks

The Platinum is more along the lines of the Gamma. It has a manual ground balance which helped me in some of my "bad" ground. It does have the push coil connectors which seems kind of cheap, but works great. I found it to be a very accurate and surprisingly deep detector for the money. I was finding wheat pennies and a couple of silver coins in the 6 to 7 inch deep range. Lots of bang for the buck. Throw in a five year warranty and you won't go wrong.

The manual says it uses Ground Grab. If you go to All Metal and press the Ground Grab (pinpoint button), that is computer ground balance and not manual (pumping the coil or not).

IMO, manual ground balance is adjusting the positive/negative sound coming from the detector sensing the ground, and using a plus/minus control to adjust it till it quiets down while pumping.

Usually, manual ground balance can be balanced all the way to salt (0) and Ground Grab usually only auto balances as low as 40 (or 20). This type detector would have difficulty at the salt water of the beach where the manual ground balance could better mask the salt water.

I know the Gamma has both computer and manual GB. But, from what I read, the Platinum does not. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hightone, you are correct. It is called ground grab. Many people shy away from a manual ground balance like a Tesoro where you manually turn the knob while slowly bobbing the coil. The Platinum is extremely easy to "ground grab". The bottom line is the detector is much more versatile over the detectors where the ground balance is "preset". Again, I think the Platinum is a real bargain.

You're correct, RL. Ground balance does make for a cleaner signal from targets not having to ID through ground minerals as well. I just didn't want a few of my friends I pointed towards the Gamma to think the lesser costing Platinum would fill their GBing at the beach. Thanks for clarifying, as I only had the manual to refer to.

My platinum cost 299 free shiping a great carry case and a couple of other accesories that are actually useful. A great deal.
