Bounty Hunter Platinum

Hi folks, Steve here along time coin/jewelry hunter. Been swinging Tesoro's most of the time but been know to try something different every once in awhile. I would like to try a Teknetics Gamma but don't have the $$$ to get one, I ran across the B.H. Platinum on the internet somehow and it looks good on paper. I have never owned or used a B.H. I have used other First Texas products though. It seems alot of people knock the Bounty Hunter line but that Platinum looks pretty good to me (although I haven't seen one other than pictures on the net). I can get one for just under $300.00 which is a good savings over the Gamma. I done a search on the forum for "Bounty Hunter Platinum" and saw there are a couple people that have/had one, I sent them a message but haven't heard back from them. Would like some input on the Platinum. Thanks! Steve.

For what it is worth I was also looking at the platinum real hard and downloaded the manual. It specifically says in the manual on bottom of pg.18. "The
detector will also not Ground Grab on a wet salt-water beach." This was one of the reasons I was considering this detector; the beach. If I ever get there. Other than that it seems like a great buy. Good luck.

Skiwhiz,
You don't hold onto your detectors very long. You would find it very hard to resale this one when you got tired of it and wanted to try another unless you heavily discounted it. (remember David C's listing? ) Something to keep in mind while you are comparing the two.

Good point Mike, thanks. Hmm I wonder how David made out with the one he had, I didn't follow it on the big auction site. Having a goofed up headphone jack and assembled on a different setup and not having the factory coil probably didn't help anything. Steve.

I use to have an ace 250 a while back but had mineralization problems so I sold it. This platinum in my opinion will blow the aces out of the water! espeacially after the Dave Johnson report on the circuitry in the platinum being an earlier version of what was in the fisher F5! You can also use the same coils on the teknetic series. That tells me alot a good things.

Can someone answer me this, I know the gamma has more features but is the raw detector power the same?
Example: the minelab exterra series 305,505 and 705 all are equal on depth! Its just that the 705 has the most bell/whistles followed by the 505 than the 305.
In the the owners manual of the platinum at max sensitivity setting it can hit a quarter at 9" from the search coil and the gamma owners manual says it can hit a quarter to a distance of about 11".
In black and white the gamma is 2" deeper according to the owners manuals.
Is this true? asking owners with experience.

I will say this in my opinion the platinum is a super deal with the sale price, but like someone said earlier if you don't get the sale price by the gamma and I agree.
I would take this, well I have already just waiting for my platinum to arrive; over the garrett ace 350 any day! The ace is good but this is so much better to me anyway.

I have an older minelab sovereign that I love and with this platinum for the parks I have alot covered. I can't afford those pricey high end minelab detectors heck I bought my sovereign used for $350.00 with the meter. Awesome detector! I have an awesome 2nd unit in the platinum! For those of us on a budget this is great as more hunters can have great options.

I hope someone can answer my questions above.
