Anybody have one of these and if so, how do you like it. Just heard about them today and they do not seem to be your ordinary run of the mill BH detector. Although most of the Bh detector do a real good job, especially for the price, this looks like it ought to be a real winner. So, What do you think of them?
Yes, I have a Bounty Hunter Platinum that I bought recently at Cabelas for $299.95 on sale. Regular price is $499.95.
I like it alot. I find penny's, nickels at 9"-10" deep (air or ground), quarters at 10"-11" (air or ground) and dimes at 9"-10"(air or ground)
using the 8" coil. Deeper penetration can be had with the 10" coil. The 4" coil doesn't seem to be as sensitive to smaller objects
as the 8" coil but is a better discriminator.
Mine will detect a .3 gram (.01 ounce) of gold between 2 1/2"-3" ( air or ground). A larger nugget at much deeper depth can
be found.
It's been raining alot here so I haven't used it too much yet, but I'm very pleased with it so far.
A very sensitive instrument for the money and easy to use.
As I mentioned above, I really like my Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector with the 8" coil.
However, don't waste your money on the 4" and 10" Bounty Hunter coils. The 4" coil is not as sensitive
as the 8" coil and the 10" coil does not find deeper objects than the 8" coil using the Bounty Hunter Platinum model.
They may work very well with the other Bounty Hunter models.
I have tried to find out, without success, which other Manufacturer's coils will work with this Bounty Hunter Platinum
metal detector.
Does anyone know if my Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector will work with the Fisher 11" Elliptical DD Coil? or any other coils of different Manufacturers?
My 8" coil (standard) works great, but the 4" and the 10" coils are worthless.
The Bounty Hunter Company told me today that the 4" and the 10" coils do not work well with
my Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector. They suggested the Fisher 11"DD Coil will work
better.
I tested the 4" coil and the 10" coil. The 4" coil is less sensitive in shallow ground than my 8" coil.
The 10" coil will not go deeper than my 8" coil. The reverse is true. My 8" coil goes deeper and is more
sensitive to small or larger objects than my 10" coil.
My 8" will detect a .01 ounce of gold up to 3" deep. The 4" coil will detect up to 1". The 10" will not
detect the gold at all.
The 8" coil will detect a penny, nickel, dime and quarter between 9"-11". The 10" coil detects the same coins
at 7"-8".
So, don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm sure the 4" and the 10" coils work very well
with other Bounty Hunter Metal Detectors but not with my Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector.
Reltolbert, I have the same problem with my 505,the 10 inch coil isn't nearly as good as my 8 inch.
BH has avertised a newer better 8 inch that comes with the 505,so maybe they just haven't upgraded the 10 inchers yet. Guess I'll just keep the 10 incher for a back up.
If your detecting coins in the 9-11 inch range,and its identifying them properly, just (be happy) thats a darn good machine!!
When my Fisher 11" DD Elliptical Coil arrives, I will test it out with my Bounty Hunter Platinum detector.
Meanwhile, I'm very happy with this standard 8" Coil.
I received my Fisher 11" DD Coil recently for my Bounty Hunter Platinum detector.
My standard 8" coil is superior to this one as well as the 4" and 10" Bounty Hunter coils. The 11"DD is slightly better
than the 10" coil for depth and sensitivity by 1" greater depth ( coins-7") 10" coil ( coins-6") standard 8" coil ( coins-10")
4" coil ( coins-5 to 6"). The standard 8" coil has twice the depth of the 10" coil and the 11"DD coil on larger objects.
The 11"DD coil will detect .01 ounce (.3 grams) gold flake within 1/2". The standard 8" coil is up to 3" and the 10" will not detect
the gold at all. However, the 4" coil will detect up to 1" depth on the gold flake.
In summary, the standard 8" coil is the best choice for the Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector. This Detector seems to be Engineered
with the standard 8" coil in mind.
There must be other coils out there that will do a good job with this Bounty Hunter Platinum detector. So far, I haven't found any.
I'll continue testing the Fisher 11"DD coil with the 8" standard coil. The winner, so far by a long shot is the standard 8" coil.
Remember, these tests are with the Bounty Hunter Platinum series only. I'm sure the other Bounty Hunter models will have better
results with these coil(s).

As you can see, the standard 8" coil is more sensitive to smaller objects and has greater depth as far as air tests go. Ground tests will vary from these air depth tests.
Let me see if I can unscramble the above chart. It didn't come out the way I wanted it too.
The Bounty Hunter Platinum metal detector is used for these air tests using the standard 8" coil; 4" coil; 10" coil and the Fisher 11"DD coil.
The Spokesman for 1st Texas told me today that my Bounty Hunter Platinum is the same as the Teknetics Omega 8000
with only superficial differences and I must use only Teknetics brand coils with my Platinum.
Are you sure those are the air tests results you got! Because if they are correct, I want to get a new platinum!!! Is the machine the same as the teknetics 8000 or 6000? Please reply as soon as possible since I'm dying to try one. Thank you and regards.
The BH Platinum and Gold models are a completely different platform from any of the other BH models and do not use the coils from those other models. The Plat and Gold use the same coils electrically as the earlier Teknetics "Greek series" and Fisher F5: however these non-BH models now come standard with a screw-on searchcoil connector which is not mechanically compatible with the Plat and Gold which use a push-on connector.
The following searchcoils should be available from the factory for the BH platinum and gold:
11 inch DD elliptical
10 inch concentric elliptical
8 inch concentric round
5 inch DD round

Under most conditions the 11 incher will go deepest, although not by a wide margin compared to the 8 and 10 inchers. The 11 incher also has a broader sweep and slightly better target separation. Some people have trouble learning to pinpoint with it, but most folks do just fine. .
The 8 and 10 inch concentrics do a little better job rejecting steel bottlecaps than the DD's, and are lighter than the 11 incher. They are also easy to pinpoint with.
The 5 incher is very good in trashy areas where target separation is so important, and it goes a lot deeper than you'd expect from its size. This is also the best coil for gold prospecting.
Hi Dave, I have been considering this model for a while now and just out of curiousity, why haven't Bounty Hunter put their name on this model. I didn't see it anywhere unless I over-looked and if i did, I aplogize.
It is quiet and deep and to my surprise it works good even in the wet sand at and in the edge of surf. I found an old cell phone burried about a foot deep in several inches of water at Dana Pt. kiddie beach in So Cal. HH Tim
Good question!!! Has your detector been tuned for each of the other coils you have? I don`t know specifically about your detector, but Lupe, (a service department tech representative at First Texas) told me that the Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 should be tuned to get optimum performance from a particular search coil.
Another point to consider is that each coil has it's specific purpose.
The 4" coil can't be beat for getting into small areas that the larger coils can't. It also enables you to search closer to chain link fences, fence posts and other metal objects than the larger coils and it can't be beat for searching trashy areas and is superior in target separation (especially when you have multiple targets close together) it also can't be beat for its` pinpointing accuracy.
On the other hand the 11" DD coil is great for its` ability to penetrate highly mineralized ground and seek out targets, it helps in reducing false signals. Because of its` size, it also enables you to search a larger area in less time then the smaller 8"coil.
The 10" magnum coil also covers a larger area in less time the the 8" coil.
The larger coils also will go deeper for targets larger than coins.
