bounty hunter pioneer 505

My neighbor (who doesn't own a computer) received a bounty hunter pioneer 505 for christmas a couple of years ago. He never has used it,and wanted me to ask this forum if anyone has used it,and if so how good a detector is it? We have read pretty much all the posts and haven't found anyone here that says they use one. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi oldrivers. I own a BH pioneer 505. I'ts my first detector I purchased about a month ago. I've done really well with mine. If you want to look at some of my finds just go to the post that says, "first month's finds I'm impressed". I also added a couple of pics further down the message. The learning curve hasn't been to bad. It was pretty easy. I think the more time you spend with it the better you become familiar with it's behavior. It does have erratic beeps at times but it may depend on the type of soil that you're on also. I live in the northwest so I deal with moisture alot. I spend most of my time on school grouns and parks. I did hunt a sandy beach with it but it doesn't like sand to well. For that I just put it on all metal mode to get rid of all the erratic beeps. All in all It's been a great beginner detector for me. It loves the silver and coins. Everytime I go out I come home with something. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me @ starnscot@yahoo.com or just leave a message and I'll get back with you as soon as poss. Take care.

I owned one before the Land Star, and I would have to say that it is similar to the Land Star MINUS the manual ground balance...It also will not detect quite as deep as the Land Star (about 1-2 inches less)...It was a great machine though...accurate, and easy to pinpoint with...

thanks guys I passed the info along and he found a guy in a local club that uses one. he said he consistently beats others with garrett 250's in the club. so it must be a pretty good detector
