Any pinpointer with a variable tuning knob will wear out......the more you use it, the faster it will wear out. You get what you pay for. Some pinpointers only have to be balanced only once, and have a separate button to turn on the unit for pinpointing. These are better.

I just got a fisher pinpointer for 39 shipped and it has a 5 year warranty, I am pleased with it doing air tests. Hope to get out this weekend to field test it

Well let us know how it works in the field, thanks for the post.

well I got to test it out today for about an hour and I love it! I really helped especially in the frozen ground. It saved me time, seriously.

I'd say it is good for one inch on coins, today I found a dime, a nickel and several pennies. The ground was so frozen that after I start to dig I want to make sure I don't dig anymore than I have too. I turned the sensitivity up to max and it helped me find coins with ease. On the nickel I dug, I simply could not see it, it was so dirty it blended in perfect with the mud, but with the pinpointer finding it was a breeze!

hey thaks for the follow up, man, I really want to get a pinpointer and it seems that everybody uses them.

used it again today and it really speeds up the finds! some coins are so dirty and this pinpointer finds em quick!

Hummm.. 40 bucks...Not a bad deal. I may eventually get me one as a 2nd pinpointer,
backup to my automax.. I originally got the automax 2 for 40 bucks with the 250, but that is
not the regular price.. I don't know if I would buy another automax if it were the regular
price. Not that it doesn't work well, but if I can find others cheaper, and they work... :/

Spend the extra $$'s for a VibraProbe now and save yourself some dough in the long run. Tough, tough, tough. I've had my 560 for 8 yrs. now, and I'm not easy on it, and it's still buzzing right along. No switches to wear out, just tip it up and you're ready to go, shuts itself off. And it's waterproof!! My detectin' buddy lost his while diving, went back the next day and found it, put new battery in (560 floats point up) and he's still using it!!! The new ones actually float to the surface I'm told.
