Bounty Hunter Lone Star

Greetings all!

Just received a radio shack discovery 2000 which I understand is the same as a Bounty Hunter Lone Star and was hoping to get some opinions on it and if possible some tips/tricks for using it. I got it as a form of payment for some very simple work so if its junk I am really not out anything but would like to hear what the experts think. Thank you!

So I tried it out and in less than a half an hour came up with a knob of some sort and a big ugly hunk of iron. It works the operator just needs to learn how to use it. And get some sort of digging tool. Oh and a pinpointer. Had fun ;)

Yep, a Pin Pointer comes in really handy. As for a digging tool. I use a screw driver for shallow coins. No need for anything fancy.

Went out again today and Score! Found my first quarter (1990) some hoop jewelry thing just under the grass, a magnet and then something strange. It appears to be two four inch rings connected to chain with a hook on the end. I am going to post a pic in the "What is it" thread as soon as I figure out how. In the mean time does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning the piece up? And yes I will admit that when I first uncovered the ring I thought I found a pirates treasure chest ;)

Congrats! :) remember, it's not what you are finding....it's that you are finding.

Congrats sounds like u are enjoying it. Careful because it is addictive.

Oh yeah I am having a great time. Found a quarter, three dimes, and eight pennies today in about an hour. Took a break and moved to a different area and broke my little hand shovel digging up a pair of old miller beer cans that IDed as coins. Oh well, but I had a good day out in the sun.

Hey Dward. Just saw your post. I'm usually on the Minelab forum.
Don't underestimate your machine. I used a Bounty Hunter Land star for about 6 years and I did well with it. Lots of silver including barbers and some seated stuff. Also quite a few large coppers including Connecticut pieces. As you learn the machine - how to set it and use it - you'll get better with it, but have patience. Ask questions!! The folks on the forum will give you plenty of help. Good luck and HH!!!

I am enjoying using and learning the RS discovery. On Sat found a couple of pennies with the daughter who laughed at a lot. Sunday I took it to the river bank and dug up about a million cans. OK maybe not a million but sure was a lot of cans. You know its a bad day when you are happy to dig up trash just because it is not another stinking can ;)
