Hello all,
I am a newcomer to this forum and to metal detecting. A few month ago I was walking in the park late at night and saw a man using a metal detector
and talked to him about it. Between the stress of my job and raising 3 grandchildren (by the way that is why I walk late at night after everyone goes to bed) I needed a hobby. After talking to the guy runnning his detector, I started searching on the internet and came across this forum and after researching I bought the F5. In the picture, there are about 160 coins, nothing really old, a 1961 penny is the oldest. The items on the right were found where a house used to be. The structure has been gone since the early 40's so this stuff is pretty old. The spoon has "crown siver co" on the back of the handle, the item that is taken apart is an old lip stick holder and the other is some kind of jewlery a pendant or something. I am so excited about this hobby, it has really helped me and thanks to the man in the park and this forum. Now I want an F75 so bad I can taste it, I could really use the back light because I have been hunting at night, but it will have to wait a while. Can't wait to get out again. Thanks again.

your off to a good start.I recently got an F5 ,but .haven't had alot of time to go out with it.before that I used a bh202 and have found plenty with it.keep diggin and for night hunts you may want to get one of those lights that go around your head so your arms are free

start. Nice pile of coins. The older coins and goodies are out there and will come as you put more time into the sport and learn the detector. The F5 is a good detector and will be much better when you put time into detecting. The most important thing in detecting is 'learning your detector'. Read every post here, especially the ones pertaining to your brand of detector. Look for a detecting club in your area and find someone to detect with. That is also a good way to learn and find some good spots to detect. Always ask permission before hunting private property and BE SURE to cover ALL holes. Welcome to a great sport and a great site. Good luck in future hunts.

Thanks, I have been reading the good information from Mike Hillis and others about the F5 and detecting in general from NASA-Tom, I got his video and it has great information about detecting. My very first post and I misspelled, of all word, silver. The spoon has "Crown Silver Co." on the back of the handle. I don't know if it is silver plated or all silver, but just finding something old is very exciting.

Just kidding!

Sounds like you're doing great!

I've heard of folks using flexible clip on LED lights to light up the display. Keep digging!

Welcome and congrats on the f5. I just got an f5 and will be taking it out today on it's first hunt.

Nice finds. I am just loving mine and have been hitting an old football field/camping area that has not been cleaned out. F-5 has been crushing the dimes and quarters. Found 33 dimes and 16 quarters there in the past few days and found my FIRST silver coin, a 1957 Roosevelt. I did not even know I had it until I got home and dumped my tool pouch in the sink. I may even have to skip some of the nascar race today and head back to my new spot (I normally don't miss a race), this new hobby is getting bad.
