My husband and I just bought our first detector. We went out back to check out different sounds and found two dimes and a nickel. One of the dimes was a 1963- Silver baby!!! Now can we just go to local parks in our city and detect? We are from Michigan any one know of fun places to start here?

Congrats on the silver for the first time out. As to your question on going to the local parks..............laws vary from state to state, let alone city to city, county to county, etc..........Check with the local "government" to see if this is legal in your area. Good luck, nice find, and happy hunting..........

As per what Jeff says:

" Check with the local "government" to see if this is legal in your area. "

The way to "check with the government" is to look up the laws (if anything even existed addressing "metal detecting") for yourself. Muni codes, laws, city charter, etc... and park rules are all available somewhere for public viewing. Eg.: on the city website, or at city hall in binder form for you to leaf through, etc..... If you see nothing there that says "no metal detecting", well then presto, it's not prohibited :0

Hello Rocky,
I too am in Michigan and got my Bounty Hunter Pioneer yesterday!
Found my first dime in my backyard, but it was modern... Not as cool as your dime. ;)
Good luck to you fellow Michiganders, and happy hunting.

Congrats on your detector and finds, if you do find your parks legal to hunt, Please make sure to fill all off your holes as to not jeopardize our hobby in the future. Most likely your parks will be legal to hunt. Good Luck!
