Bought Explorer II Basically New In Box

I sold my Explorer SE last fall but missed the hobby too much so I am back in the saddle with another Explorer. I bought an Explorer II off e-bay that is in pristine condition for $575 which arrived today via Fedex. The guy that sold it to me said it was never used per his add. If it was used it was only a handful of times maybe. There are no scuffs or scratches, dirt, etc. anywhere on it. The screen is in perfect condition. Also the warranty cards including the two year extended service plan card were never filled out. Can these still be sent in to Minelab to get a warranty period started? The warranty cards including a cool Minelab key chain are still in their original sealed packaging. This unit was made in Ireland. I also got the KOSS headphones, Both battery packs with charger and Andy Sabisch's book. I'm pretty happy with it for the price. I ordered a 12 x 10 SEF coil for this unit as well from Kellyco.

Many feel the Explorer II was the best of the three models . . . . . if you add the Pro coil you will have a unit that is hard to beat. Congratulations on the great deal and good luck as you get back into the field!

Wow, words from the man himself!!!!

Well after testing the new machine somewhat I noticed only one issue. The battery level indicator on the screen does not work. With fresh batteries or a full charge on the rechargeable pack the battery indicator does not fill in black at all. The remaining functions appear to work as normal.

Odd . . . . .if the rechargeable pack is original, it is probably getting to the end of its life especially if it was not charged regularly since it was new. But if you put in new alkaline AA cells and it does not show all black, that is a new one. What does it show with new AA's installed?

The battery indicator fill is still blank (no black) with fresh AA's.

That is a new one . . . the problem with not knowing what the battery strength is, you know you will have a dead battery just when you hit that patch filled with goodies . . . . might give Minelab a call and get a quote on a repair - you might get a shock but at least you will know what the cost will be if you opt to repair it.

You can always go with the RNB battery which gives you 30+ hours on a charge and being Li-Ion, you can recharge it every time you go out without worrying about a memory issue

EX2 is a nice machine. I still have 2 of them and they are both very stable.

I feel they are smoother than the SE and as for your coil choice...the 10 x 12 SEF coil is my favorite coil on any of the explorers.

Perhaps best of 5 models...

I saw that listing...pretty decent deal but odd the battery indicator wont light up. Maybe a Minelab could look at it but not sure.

I have been trying to sell my NIB explorer II for a few weeks, with no luck. Was going to use the money to grab an SE before they are gone for ever. Think I might just hold onto it now after reading this thread, thanks.

the rnb battery is a good idea. if you sent the explorer in it would cost for shipping and repairs that would cost more than the rnb battery. paying for the rnb battery gets you the battery and really no need for the battery indicator on the machine. the other option is if your good with a multimeter to just check the rechargeable or alkaline pack periodically with the meter.
