i bought a exal 1000 yesterday off a mate i"v been looking at getting one of these for a wile now & i finally found enough $$$ to to get one ( i pay for new detectors with found money only ) i took it to a spot i hunt quite regularly & found $1, a watch, a earring, 4 bottle caps & a buckle before the battery went dead :heh:. today i try-ed some gold & silver jewellery with it in the back yard & i"m quite impressed with it, the gold rings come in with a nice strong signal at a very good distance from the coil :surprised: it"s much better than the old whites BHID i"v got witch has been consigned to the parts box or maybe i"ll use it as a lend out unit .
hopefully i"ll get out with it this weekend with a fully charged battery  & Christen it with some nice yellow stuff .

Mate,

you will learn to love it.
I spent nearly 8 hours in the water with mine yesterday, had a ball.
$17.40 in coins, excluding 1 and 2 cent pieces.
One very old 925 ring with a stone.
One 14 gram 925 bracelet.
A silver toe ring.
1.4 gram 9ct ladies gold band and my first ever platinum ring, 950 and 4 grams in weight.
One junk ring plus heaps of the usual crap.

Some of the areas I work are relatively ferrous free so I tend to hunt in pinpoint.
I set the sensitivity in disc and then switch to pp, back the threshold down till the machine is silent and start swinging.
If its a strong signal I switch to disc to see if its a good target.
If its faint then I will remove a few inches of sand till it registers in disc. If unsure, I dig.
I find I get much better depth and find smaller items using pp.
Now go fall in love.

In pp, you can set the sens all the way up, you will gain depth even in noisy areas. I find that if you can set the sens to 8 in disc mode, than it will go slightly deeper than pp set at 10 but you will need to go slower. I hunt in pp and switch to disc to check the target, so I have to turn the sens down otherwise there's falsing when trying to check the target. For this reason, I hate where the auto sens setting lies, and I would like to disable it, it's very annoying.
