Bought a Whites Eagle Spectrum off a friend

So one of my friends had a Whites Eagle Spectrum their grandfather gave them. I know he didn't use it much when he bought it and my friend hasn't really used it either, so its still in pretty decent shape. The only issue with it, is that it needs a new rechargeable battery pack. The one that was in it is pretty much destroyed. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can still do. It sucks that the packs you can buy for it now are like $35, but I think it will be worth it. If anyone would happen to have any extras that might work, let me know!

I decided im going to buy a "C" cell battery holder instead of the rechargeable pack. I know the rechargeable can save me money, but I feel like over time it wont be as effective. I might buy one in the future, but for now I think the battery holder pack is the better way to go

the c cell battery pack is the way to go as the rechargeable packs are no longer available from whites and the life of them wasnt that great anyway, and if you do find one it will cost more than it is worth, you will like the spectrum eagle it is a great detector.

20 years ago when the Spectrum was made, the NI-Cad was just about the only rechargeable we could use but a lot of advances have been made in batteries since then. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can make any number of rechargeable packs to use in your Eagle but unless you are going to do a LOT of detecting, it is pretty hard to beat the alkaline battery. They last a long time and are pretty cheap, especially when purchased in bulk.

If you really want an easy way to go the rechargeable route, buy some NiMH batteries and a charger and use them as an alkaline substitute. They will last a long time per charge and you should get about 500 charges with them.

I already have the C cell battery holder ordered from Kellyco...Im pretty sure its all the detector needs. My friend didn't know what was up with it because it would gradually lose the length of charge until even charging the pack didnt even turn the machine on.

I have an Eagle Spectrum and love it. I purchased C to AA sleeves and use my AA rechargeables. I get about 4 hours continuous hunting on a charge and have an extra pack rigged up if needed. Using the AA's also reduced the weight of the machine. The Eagle Spectrum is a good machine and you should really enjoy using it.

when u get it going let us know how u like it im thinking about buying a spetrum off of ebay not that i realy ned another detector LOL iv got three now a fisher f2 teknetics delta 4000 an platinum.but then u cant never have to many toys LOL

Well i got the battery pack and put it in the Spectrum, but there seems to be an issue. I put brand new C cells in and when it does the battery check it said its only at 5.9 volts. Its supposed to be a lot more than that right?

Nvm, i see that 6.0 volts is the highest it should be so im right on the mark

It's the best value for the money (you should pay $180-$230 on ebay) without a doubt. It's an extremely capable machine that you can very easily fine tune on the fly, tells you just what you want to know, seems like an x-ray of the ground.

Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to spring to try it out

I just wanna get out and detect with the Eagle Spectrum! but it's in the single digits here unfortunately and there's snow on the ground. I did an air test the other day in my house with it, just to see how it was working, and I can tell this will be a deep machine on silver, which is mainly what i try to hunt
