Bottle Stop

Can anybody give me some info on what this bottle stop might have been used for and if it is worth anything? It is glass wrapped in some hand-cut decorative silver. It has a "22" etched in the bottom. The actual bottle opening could not have been wider than a dime. I know it is at least 200 years old. I found it on a unique piece of property that was once owned by a founding father and Dec. of Independece signee. It was found within in the same 3000 square foot plot with a half dozen musket balls and a bunch of George II pennies and one half penny. (All of which are in terrible shape).
Perhaps a french perfume bottle top? I would greatly appreciate any insight.
