Books on Metal Detecting

Roadrunner

New member
As a newbe, I am trying to find some books that will be beneficial to read on the subject. Has anyone read either of these books, and if so, are they worth the cost?

"Metal Detecting Manual" by Dan Hughes or

Charles Garret's book on "Finding Coins"

The New Successful Coin Hunting - by Charles Garrett (author)

The Urban Treasure Hunter: A Practical Handbook for Beginners - by Michael Chaplan (Author)

I highly recommend these two books. They are divided into various chapters for topics. I have read and to this day still go through the books to get ideas when I run out of ideas for places to hunt. I have read many other books, but these two are the "BEST" from my experience.

Roadrunner, another great MD guide is "Detectorist" by
Robert Sickler. By the way, both books mentioned by
John/Edmonton are available from Kellyco. along with
many others. Sickler's book is self-published by:
Robert H. Sickler, 4291 Atwood Road, Stone Ridge, NY 12484.
I have Sickler's book and it is loaded with useful info and charts.
This book may well be available at bookstores too but I
haven't checked (Amazon? Books-aMillion? Etc.) as I got
mine from a local Garrett dealer. Good Luck in all your
endeavors!

I have Charles Garrett's Successful Coin Hunting book and John is so right, it's a treasure trove of knowledge!
