Books: MXT Edge? Others?

I have ordered my first MD, a MXT w/ 950 coil & a 4.5 X 7 EXcelerator. Unfortunately I know of no one in my area who could help with the learning cure on both the machine itself and general hunting (coin/jewelry & relic).

Is The MXT Edge worth the $30 over the manual & DVD that will come with the machine? What about books for learning the art of the hunt? Everything from the proper way to dig a hole to how to research a potential area.Never having used any MD I need something that covers the basics but also goes into "intermediate" skills of the hunt. I will be hunting in rural WV around old home sites, some parks and perhaps some civil war sites as well.

I realize that I always have the good folks here in the forum for help and trust me, I will have many questions I'm sure.

Your book recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Rick

Congrats on your decision to get the MXT. You won't be disappointed. I personally didn't get anything from the MXT Edge, but maybe that's me. I know there's others that swear by it. I don't know of any other books around. Maybe some of the other members here will have suggestions. HH to all, Nancy

I'm with Nancy in that I did not get much out of the book because its a little to technical for me. I will sell you mine for $20 plus shipping if you are interested. HH Dennis in Idaho

If you're into the technical aspects of how the MXT works and theory of electromagnetic induction, etc., it's great. I agree with others that it's a bit too technical for the average user. Lots of practice will do more for you than any book, in my opinion.

I just got "THE MXT EDGE" and read the book cover to cover. I thought it had tons of great information in it. Although the MXT is a great "TURN ON AND GO" machine, I found most of the information was helpful. The owners manual doesn't come close to giving you the ins and outs of the MXT, where as the MXT EDGE did. Being new to Metal Detecting is one of the reasons I found the book so interesting, or maybe I'm just the kind of jackass that likes that detailed technical babble.

I agree, the MXT Edge book is very helpful over the owners manual. Take the time to read it and a guy can get allot from it about the different ends and outs of the MXT. Also like others have said good old practice is the way to go, but the MXT Edge book helps break down what you are learning during the use of the MXT in each of it's different modes.

Take Care All,
Bill G
