My guess is this is part of a book end because of the 2 screws at 90 degrees but the loop at the top kinda makes me wonder. It could just be part of the design or have some purpose. Think the design is a griffin. Not a griffin expert but have never seen one with a tail go up to a loop above the head. Would be interested if someone knew another purpose for it. Seems to be made of copper and 4 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide. The design (relief lines) on the other side is a bit different.
