Book recommendations for beginner?

I have just received my first MD, a White's MXT. I am very new to this "hobby" and am looking for some very good books to help get me started. Basically I am looking for information about the "art" of the hunt. Everything from the proper way to dig a hole, tips & techniques for coin/jewelry as well as relic hunting, how to research and find areas to hunt and how & when to clean your finds. I would like something that not only covers the basics but gets into a more intermediate level as well. I live in WV and will do most of my hunting in rural areas. I apologize if this has been asked & answered before but I did a search and didn't really have much luck.

Your recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Do a Google and also check in the book sections ot treasure maganizes, like Western & EasternTreasure. Further, many, many, good tips can be gleaned from these forums. Someone, though, will have a book title or two for you. Welcome to a pretty addictive hobby. HH jim tn

IMO the best book out there dedicated to the MXT is the MXT EDGE by Jeff Foster. Been swinging my MXT for 6 years and thought I had it down pretty well, until I got that book, learned a ton!
I got mine at fielddepth.com

RGS2-----I have some very good books containing subject matter that you inquired about (written by "heavy weights" in this hobby).---If you're new to this hobby they would be helpful and VERY INTERESTING reading to you. (everything from coin shooting, relic hunting, water hunting, gold prospecting, etc.) If you're interested--P.M. me. I will list the book titles & authors names for you. Maybe we could make a wonderful "package price" deal for you. ha They could be shipped "book rates", which would be cheaper shipping. I bought them all new and they are in good shape--make me an offer! P.M. me for the list, if interested.-----Regards, Del

A must read is "Fisher Intelligence" by Thomas Dankowski. It doesn't make a difference what metal detector you use because what he talks about can be applied to all metal detectors. Go to Fisherlab.com and go to the Home hobby page and scroll down towards the bottom of the page. You can download it free.

HH Randy

Garrett also has some books on metal detecting. Z
