19/ Automatic Sensitivity
When and how to use automatic sensitivity is for sure the most common question that new Sovereign users ask, and there is a lot to be learned from how this feature works. At first glance, the machine seems easier to use in auto. There is less nulling as you increase your sweep speed and less need for good coil control. What auto sens does is to run the machine through a range of settings as it encounters the ground. It then settles on the range which is performing best at getting a target in that ground. Unlike a single setting, some of these will be too low and not bring up targets. Some will also be too high and cause the ground to overpower targets. The plus side is that these multiple settings will act to saturate the ground reasonably well to give the detector stable smooth operation.
In manual sensitivity, it
