I am going to call any hunt prior to March 21 a bonus hunt. Normal high in January up here is about 30F. Today almost 50 but damp. I am aching again but not as much as two days ago. The digging tool in the middle of the photo was a Christmas present from my Aunt. I really like it and never would have paid 40 bucks of my own money for it. Brand name is Lesche. It feels sturdy, like it will take a lot of abuse. The stuff on the left was site one (an old field that John in West Va would love to hunt) the stuff to the right was at a place where they ride horses competitively. It was my first try there. Firsts for 2008 include: first silver coin, a 1942 quarter at site one, first wheatie, a 1945 at site 2, first jewelry (junk) which is that green wire bracelet with one butterfly (2 missing but I couldn't find them,) first toy car, first golf ball.
About the quarter. Where I found it has been metal detected by everybody and his brother. I was just killing time and practicing in all metal mode. It was down at least 10 inches which is almost as long as the digging tool. I was very excited to get that monkey off my back so early in the season. It was the deepest keeper ever for me! Said my thanks to God and looked for more. Found a few more coins and moved onto next site.
Just a FYI. The all metal mode requires a shovel to recover some items. I found and medium size iron spike at about 14 inches. A lid to a can at about a foot. A tiny little grommet at 6 inches which took me about 15 minutes to locate in the mud I was detecting in. Just loving the GTI 2500!
Sorry photo 2 is blurry. Batteries died and need to be recharged so I was limited in the number of pics I could take.
Might get another shot at a bonus hunt on Saturday. If I do, I'm going to a school in severe coin mode and try to put some serious clad in the bank.
Chris
Oh yeah, 41 coins for $3.33.
