Bombs all around me...

Bavaria Mike

Monday, I was walking along the fence outside our office on the Army post and saw what I thought was a piece of exhaust pipe in a mole hill. I gave it a kick and out popped this artillery round, my heart skipped a beat but, I have gotten a little desensitized as our building was built over a WWII German ammo supply point and they have found 60+ bombs and grenades in the past 2 years directly around the building. The bomb disposal team said it was a German 88 millimeter artillery round from WWII. Here

You were very lucky you didn't 'kick the bucket' Mike! glad to see that you were not injured by the encounter. You also reminded me of the advice that Garrett include in their manuals, not to recover live ordinance.b here am I thinking yeah right, like that will ever happen. Well you just showed that they're out there if you are in the wrong spot.
Mick Evans.

I know exactly how you feel. When I was in the army and in a tank test track field an I picked up a look like a rusty pop can only it went deeper in the ground and when I had it up knee high I realized what was in my hand so ever-slowly I laid it back down and ran like heck and called to have it removed -- it was a old live round from a tank. OOPS!
