I mentioned earlier that I was going to start working at a heat treating company (hardens metal mostly for use in automobiles - like crankshafts, piston rings, etc.). Well just finished working my first week there like I was a slave for an Egyptian. 8 hours+ no breaks and only a half hour for lunch, strenuous labor, monotonous repetitive work. While at work others play radios - guess that is allowed - but the rap 'crap' with its own profanity and the profanity of the workers who listen to that trash is beyond belief.
There was one guy who impressed me the first day I was there. He came in with his McDonald's breakfast and sat down across from me. He bowed his head for a moment and then he ate his food. I thought that was great. I had a nice long chat with him while we worked together. Saved over a year ago and hasn't gone to church in awhile. He asked about my church and he said he needs to get back to church. He had a checkered past - drug dealings, alcoholism, did jail time, was a member of a gang, etc. Was glad to hear of his salvation. He has to attend AA meetings, see his probation officer and so on but he seemed to be trying to live a Christian life. When I mentioned metal detecting his eyes lit up - he's looking for a new hobby.
He was let go by the company so he is back to the temp agency looking for work again. He still listened to the eap stuff and asked what I thought about rap. I told him personally our school systems have failed the masses who listen to what you call rap. He asked what that meant and I responded with "In some cases you will find a silent letter - one that is there but is otherwise not pronounced when the word is said. In the case of rap there is no silent C at the beginning - it is a hard K sound in front of what you call rap."
Anyway the music I am subjected to sickens me. I feel badly about Lem (the guy who was let go).
On the positive side my half hour of lunch is filled with Christian music - in my van - my fortress of solitude! Thank God for good uplifting music.
Now on to what I was going to start this out about - good Christian music. Here in Lansing we have a christian radio station that broadcasts on the internet. If you have a good connection to the internet and want to enjoy some good music - uplifting to the spirit - you can listen to the station I listen to on your computer via the internet at:
http://www.positivehits.com/pages/music.cfm
There is a link there for listening online. You may be asked to sign in or register and you can use Windows MediaPlayer to listen to the streaming music. So good to be able to listen while I am even typing this to you (helps force the garbage out of my head I had to endure earlier).
So do you have a station that streams on line from your area? I'd like to amass a lot of bookmarks for good Christian on line streaming music. Care to help make a list for all of us to enjoy?
