Well the next Equinox is in the Spring 2018-03-20 04:16 PM (UTC). I hope that's not the reason for the name. Winter Solstice is on 2017-12-21 04:29 PM (UTC).
Actually, winter and summer are "Solstice(s)'". The Equinox's are the Vernal Equinox (March 20-21) and the Autumnal (September 22-23). So my thoughts are they released/announced the Equinox just about on the Autumnal Equinox 2017... could just be a coincidence or maybe they just liked the name? If it was called the Solstice I'd give your prediction a thumbs up!
