Boat Ramp and fishing piers

John(Tx)

New member
Have any of you guys hunted boat ramps that have those little fishing piers by them? We have a few of those and I'm thinking about trying them out. Anyone have any luck hunting those? One of them has been there 30+ years. HH John

I think that ramps and piers like that are a mixed bag.....There is definitely gold there but you will get a lot of lead and junk too. Discrimination settings play a big role in weeding through the junk. The best way to find out? Go try it. Sometimes my best spots have been found by trusting my gut. If yours is telling you this place might be worth checking out...then definitely give it a whirl! Good luck my friend.

Boat ramps are interesting IF you dive. Most boat ramps I have been on because boaters love to power trailer their boats make too deep a hole for waders. BUT, I have never found a gold ring at a boat ramp. Lots of coins and tools and 2 permenant Michigan trailer plates, props and misc trailer parts. Not very profitable.

Most ramps have steel rod in the concrete, so you might have issues detecting over the actual ramp. My guess would be lots of lost keys, beer cans, sinkers and :pulltab: . Also be careful as I doubt many are expecting someone to be in the water at the ramp. It'll be tough for drivers to see you, and tough for you to hear them backing.

Well that depends on how deep it is or if you are a diver.Stainles steel props can bring up to $350 for the right ones.As a search and rescue diver we do alot of training near these ramps as propellers are a good income source for the unit.I have never found gold other than if someone called to have us look for something specific. But if there are people in or near the water they will allways lose stuff. So good luck... Grumpy

3 times more than what I would find at a swimming beach. Never any gold or silver. Now I only hunt it if the weather is so bad I can't go anywhere else just to get out.
