boat launch hunting

thinking of hitting a few boat launches this year..

anybody ever try them?

there sure are some goofy people at those launches losing rings and other things i bet.....

I hit them frequently at the lakes I hunt. I look for sandy shores next to the ramp. This is where people will sit on the bank watching and waiting for rides etc. etc.

I've hit several pocket spills doing this. In fact, on one sandy beach next to a ramp, I hit three pocket spills totaling just over $10.00. One of the spills had a $5 bill wrapped around coins. I tend to travel out chest deep around the ramps as well. I predict that people will jump in and out of their boats into waist deep water possibly shedding items and coins.

I also have a bucket of lead weights and a million pull tabs but, with the right scoop, digging isn't so bad.

If it's easy digging, I enjoy the heck out of boat ramps. My BHID300 alllows me to skip all the iron that's out there. Now if I were to hunt a ramp at the ocean, I'd hunt it with a DF or the BHID in All Metal. I would hunt 100 feet either side of a ramp at the ocean if there were beaches where boaters would land their boats for pick up and drop off of personnel or run back to the vehicle for forgotten items.

I've done well at boat/canoe launches. Folks turn small boats over at the lauch to drain water and dump all kinds of stuff. My "bible" for this is a book that describes about 400 miles of canoe trails in my area. It lists and pinpoints every boat launch on those waterways. I spend many Sunday mornings before church running this route on my motorcycle with my gear in a backpack. It's great therapy and relatively easy hunting.

A great place to hunt. Be careful as there are some boaters who do not look and will run right into you if you are neck deep in the water. Be especially careful if Bill Dance is anywhere near the boat dock. He most probably would kill you by accident.

The local boat launch here on the Columbia river was filling in a couple years ago. The County had the launch dredged and I headed out there to watch the action. Doesn't take much to entertain me.
The scoop loads of bottom muck was dumped into a dump truck and I could see that just a quarter mile away was where the trucks were off loading the soupy mess.
A 'dozer was spreading the stuff as the trucks dropped it off so after giving the area a couple weeks to drain I grabbed my detector and thought I would see what I could find.
Boy!!!! a lot of people sure do lose their car keys and cell phones. That was pretty much all that I found. A lot of keys and phones. A few big salmon lures and some rusty hunks of metal.
Fun hunt anyhow.
