From the land of the Bluenose.....well my day and a half off arrived so after being "bent, stapled and vibrated" by the Chiro Killer from Kenya I hobbled out to a local school/playing field and just enjoyed being in one piece.<center><img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d634b3127cceba42d8474fda00000026108AcM2bhk4ZN2"></center>

Had to share the park with some rug rats who eventually all ended up followed me around forming what must have looked like a train with 20 cars behind it running down a serpintine track. No matter which way I turned and twisted...there they were asking me more questions than Alex Trebuc on Jeopardy! "Hey mister whatz you doing?" "Hey mister why you digging metals?" "OHHHHHHHHH there's a worm!" Lord love a duck.

I survived and ended up with a steel ball, silver earing, silver ring ,button magnet, pressed Peggy's Cove penny, marble, golf egg and 105 coins @ $12.50<center><img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d634b3127cceba42d85acef700000026108AcM2bhk4ZN2"></center>

Got to ask you bouys in the know what the little "poppy" design before the 925 is?<center><img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d634b3127cceba42d842ceef00000026108AcM2bhk4ZN2"></center>

Lord luv a duck, thats a lot of coins! Seems the Kenyan Chiro Killer is doing you some good, after all.

I think the "poppy" symbol could rightly be called a makers mark and denotes the manufacturer. There's probably list somewhere with all the marks on it.

As for the kiddies, just tell them that you have a pee detector and you are sniffing out old pee from dogs or something like that. Let them know that it is really thick right there where they are standing, but you didn't find any over there...waaaaaaaaay over there, away from the play ground and ballfields.

I bet that was a site. It reminded me of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. You weren't Snow White. maybe grumpy?

It's a hall mark, but to what company?

It's a hall mark, but to what company?[/quote]Hallmarks don't always designate a company. They are also put on to signify the purity of the metal.

Oh, and nice finds Les.

Awhitser is right, but most modern silver jewelry has its purity designated with a decimal number, especially so the common stuff. In this case, 925 = Sterling or 92.5% pure silver. This has become nearly universal in its application.

The marking of a little flower is not one I can turn up. However, makers come and go and much of the stuff from Asia, especially Thailand, is almost untraceable.

Too, the Czech, Estonian and old European makers who were absorbed by the Communist regimes have fired back up and its just plain hard to keep up, from what I can learn. It could have been made anywhere from Ajerbaijan to Zambia

About all I can say is its Sterling. Silver closed today at $12.53 USD bid, so thats $11.59USD worth of Ag.

You had quite a day my boy. I hear ya about the curtain climbers. I attract a mob of them every once in awhile. When the ground is soft and moist I tell them I'm looking for fishing worms and invariably I'll dig one or two up, then I hold them up and say, " See I found some." Then the little boogers go wild.

Yeah almost all silver rings used to be stamped, " Sterling." Wonder if it came from Afghanistan, the heroin capitol of the world. A poppy would be a fitting mark.
