Blue tooth for detectors?

coinnut

New member
Any know of someone who could tell us if you could hook up blue tooth technology to a metal detector? Looking to have an ear piece in one ear and the other ear free to hear surrounding noise, all while going wireless from the detector to the ear piece. Headphones are great, but too heavy and the cord gets in the way. Any ideas??

That's been kicked around for a long time coinnut. However, no one has brought it to the market. Why? No money in our miniscule hobby. If we were the buying masses, it would be a thing of the past by now. But to manufacture wireless headphones and make profits enough to make it worthwhile, they would be quite expensive. The technology is here: Minelab's XTerra's are using cell phone tech. But it's cost prohibitive to most small companies and the big guys would want an arm and leg and house and dog...you get my meaning I'm sure. Great idea and I wish we had them on the shelf. Maybe the Chinese will show us how it's done?? Good hunting, David@Dixie

Thanks for the reply and I see what you mean about the Chinese. Better start learning their characters or we won't be able to read anything! I was just hoping to stumble on to something already produced for another product that just might work, but I won't hold my breath!!

I do this now. Not bluetooth but with simple FM modulator. I bought a device designed to listen to FM music without wires. Has two sets of earphones with built in receivers. I bought mine from a salvage store that sells Pep Boy surplus. I don't like the earphones. They are not comfortable. So I found a cap with a little pocket on the back that has a small FM radio in it. It also has a set of earbud phones built into the cap. I don't care for these either and will likely replace them with some standard phones. But I have tried it and it works great. I use the little FM transmit box that came with the first earphones I bought and simply tune the receiver in the cap to its frequency in the FM broadcast band.

thanks!! Sounds like that would be much easier than waiting for blue tooth to catch up with metal detecting!!!

hay Coinnut, just seen your post about wireless headphones. Just got a ad today from odd lots, they have wireless headphones on sale now for 14.99, I got some and they work great. No wires but still regular headphone.

I just did a search on Ebay for "wireless headphones." Got over 1400 responses. The top one was listed as "Logitech Bluetooth" Seems to be made to plug into any standard headphone jack.

A good set of padded headphones blocks out noise. I tried using "mini" ear-bud type phones and found I could not hear signals as clearly. I will leave the blue-tooth technology for using my phone while driving.

What I would really like to see is a built in clock on a metal detector. I often lose track of time and am in the dog house for a week when I come home late!!!

the logitech BT headphones are good but too "slow",
the sound you ear have a delay over the real signal from the box.

Better solution an FM device.

I don't know why not...There are wireless headphone sets available for under 60 bucks....I did a search on nuggetshooter forum & found a post on a guy that had set up a completly cord-free minelab PI gold machine with the new lightweight coiltek LI-ION battery system & wireless headphones...was really a trick set-up

Oh wow, I just had to grin. That's why I go MDing, I just lose my self with thoughts until I get a good signal then it's dig dig dig. Maybe a watch with an alarm.

There is some chatter over in the Garrett forum about wireless headphones, not bluetooth but FM.
