blocking unwated targets?

How can you block nails, and bottle caps along with other peices of trash. I was hunting in all metal mode yesterday, and found a bunch of old items. Nails, bottle caps, wire, pennys, bullets, fishing wieghts, and small metal beeds. I found no gold but was wondering how to block some of the unwanted targets. And what is the expectencey range of the GB Se on a peice of gold the size of a grain of rice? Just want a ball park figure if you would please. Well tku for the feed back.

You can't get rid of those targets while operating in the all metal mode. You told the detector to be in the all metal mode, and then you complain it picks all metal.

If you want to get rid of those items, run it in the discriminate mode. Read the owners manual, It will explain how to do this.

Mr. Bill

Sry was just asking I have never owned a detector befor. Iv been reading it. Its kinda confusing. So AM is all metal. Why don't the manual have a gold ID number. What is the normal ID for gold?

Generally, the ID of Gold flakes or nuggets using the Gold Bug is 44-49. However, this depends on the shape, size, depth and the type of minerals
in the soil. So, when in doubt, dig it out.

I was always told to dig everything when prospecting? The reason being, if you don;t dig a target, it migt be a nugget.

The guys a beginner he's never had a detector before, I think he needs a bit of help.

Ok what you need to do is ground balance the detector in all metal

Once you have done this put it into discrimination

set it at 40

This setting will give small iron nails etc a low tone or a grunt ignore all these type of signals

Set your sensitivity as high as it will go, but not so its unstable

Once you get used to using it like this its easy, you should find very little iron and still find gold

Give Fisher a cal and talk to someone in the tech dept and dont be afraid to ask them anything you need help with.
They have always been very helpful when i have called.

Welcome to the wonderful world of prospecting. You've received some good advice so far, I'm sure more will be forthcoming. Here are some things I think are important.

1. Ground balance - critical skill

2. Run your sensitivity as high as possible - most gold is small but don't make your machine unstable

3. Always use headphones - target responses can be subtle

4. Recheck your ground balance - Conditions change as you move

5. Hunt in areas where gold has been found - gold isn't everywhere

6. Dig all targets - as you gain experience you will pass on some also you can recheck iffy targets with some discrimination but at first dig everything

7. Recheck your ground balance.- it is easy to get caught up in prospecting and move quite a distance without rechecking.

8. Be patient, it takes most folks several months to find their first nugget

9. Find a mentor - Join a club

For gold prospecting, go to the Teknetics T2 website, click on the "Tek Files" button, and you will find our Gold Prospecting with a VLF Metal Detector book.

When searching for gold, you almost always have to use the autotune all metals mode because discrimination mode will cause you to miss a lot of the smallest gold, and most gold is the small stuff. And, you have to dig almost everything you hear: this is explained in the book. If you are finding pieces of metal so small that you almost can't see them, then you are doing just about everything right except swinging the searchcoil over gold.

That totally makes sense!:clapping:

Tku dave for the heads up. I do need to play with it more. I have found some small metals so far. I have found some small Peices of wire which looked like the head of a neddle, and some pellets from a .177 calabor gun. I will try some air test with the head phones later when it cools off. Tku for the help. Its been greatly apprecatied. Jess

Davve J is my F5 coil 11dd the same as the gold bug coil except for the conector Is it a connector problem or can be replaced

Thanks

Bob

The F5 11 inch DD searchcoil is electrically similar to the Tek "Frat Bros."/ Gold Bug 11 inch DD, but the connector is different.

Thank You

Dave

I Just wanted to let you know that the audio on your new machine produces in disc mode is exactly what i was hoping for. It is lively and extremely descriptive.

It is a great improvement to the f5 d2 that I normally hunt. I think alot of thought and effort went into the build. The ease of the disc mode is optimally setup for ther relic hunter. I can see many of buttons with this machine.

Take care and thanks for the new products

Bob
