I still remember the nun in 2nd grade preparing us for our First Communion.
She drew a square on the blackboard and filled the black area with white chalk,explaining " this is what your soul looks like."
Then she started in...."now children...if you disobey your mother..see what happens to your soul"? ( as she takes an eraser and erases a small white area so that the area is now black.)
She continues on with a myriad of sins erasing the white chalk with each example until the square is almost all black slate.
Let me tell you we 7 yr.olds were shaking in our shoes..
Then she draws another square , chalks in the white again, and then presents an example of a Mortal sin...and proceeds to erase the entire white box to show the horrible state of one's soul in Mortal sin.
The above is no lie..true story
