In February I became a member of "The Central Virginia Civil War Collectors Association". That month Greg Heath won best find with his Confederate staff officers button. I could not enter the one I found because I was not a member in January when I found it. Anyway, I went to the meeting the other night with Greg (Mountain Man). The meeting is in Richmond and it's almost a two hour drive. I took a few buttons I found including the state of Maine officers button I dug a couple of weeks ago.
Now I know of a couple of members that found some KILLER finds this last month including belt plates and Confederate buttons... so I was not expecting to have anything to even consider going up against what I knew others had dug. Well who'da thunk it, they didn't show up at the meeting with all the holy grails so I was in the running with my humble Maine button. Greg had a smashed Confederate "l" button he had found, and as far as I'm concerned it would have beat a pretty Yankee button ~ but he thought not. The only other entry was a rare bullet and big rosette, but it was not a military item. So when all the voting was done and the dust settled, I had won "Best Dug Relic Of The Month" ~ Cool. I think I like winning these. I know I would have been blown out of the water had some of the other relics been brought in but I'll humbly take it.
