What a weird beach hunting season it's been for me this summer at the Jersey shore. First the water was too cold for the first half of the summer. Now all the targets seem to have disappeared in the wet sand. Normally in the winter, I might find an average of a hundred coins in a few hours. For the last month, I've been averaging about twenty coins and very little jewelry when I go out. Today I almost found more jewelry than coins. Things have been so bad that I've been tempted to hunt the dry sand instead of the water. Ever hear the saying, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then." Today I finally found some "nuts". I came home with my twenty or so coins, but also found a huge gold high school ring, another large gold band, 5 earrings, a cross, and a bracelet. All were found very near the low tide mark or in the water. HH.
