Blank MXT Screen

I took my MXT out today and it was doing fine at my first search site. When I arrived at a new site I turned it on and looked for the voltage reading and it looked like some foreign language then went blank. I turned it on and off several times, pulled the battery pack out and re-inserted but the screen would not come back to life when I turned it on. The machine seemed to be detecting ok and beeped at each find. I took the machine home and after an hour of being off I clicked it on and it worked fine again. Battery reading was still 11 volts.
Anyone else hear of this happening before? I've never droped or abused the machine and it is only 8 months old.
Thanks

If your detector was in a car all day and the temp was high in the car that could cause the display to do some straing stuff. I work with digital meters and when in the sun too long they go blank or hard to read.

And if memory serves me, I believe there has been reports of a ground problem that has caused display problems. I would take the unit back outside for a few outings and try your best to keep it in the shade, that way you can possibly isolate the problem as temperature related. The fact that the display returned to normal after being inside for awhile leads me to believe that may be the case.

Thanks for the tip but it could not be temperature related. It was 6:30 in the morning and the car and outside temp was pretty constant for the 3 minutes that it took me to drive to the second search site. I'll stay close to home until I can be sure it will not repeat the failure.

David, next time it happens, take your sunglasses off. If you have polarized glasses the screen may be extremely difficult to see.
Just my guess. Mine looks blank when I forget to take my polarized clip-ons off. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Thanks Bill, I don't use sunglasses because they hurt with the headphones I use. I wish I had time to take my machine out but I've had too many house items to work on so I haven't used it since I had the problem.
