Black Vaq

I used to have a Vaquero and kind of miss it now. I am wondering about the Black Vaquero with the "new" DD coil and how well it works compared to the old standard coil.

I have the older gray vaq and personally like the 8x9 better. But since getting the 5.75 concentric, that one stays on it the most. Just never warmed up to the 8x11 and did not even put it on once last season. If you are in a field where there's few targets it's great. But in even moderate trashy sites, the 8x9 does work better for me and that 5.75 is fantastic. It's hard to take it off the thing. haha. If you get a black one with the 8x11, the 5.75 concentric will be a must have. It's like you almost have a whole different disc setting with it. That's just my opinion and don't want to start a fuss with the 8x11 fans. I'm no expert but personally do like the concentric coils better, seems like I dig less trash with those or i'm just more use to using them. Good luck.

I have the latest Vaquero with the 11x8 coil, that coil has only been used a few hours at most, the coil that stays on the machine 99% of the time is my NEL Snake 6.5x3.5,great for really trashy sites and getting in between the stubble rows when the crops come off,how ever hard i try and like that 11x8 coil it comes straight back off again and goes back in the cupboard.

The only use I have for the new coil is open field with sparse targets and not alot of trash.
As a whole, and maybe because I have mild soil, I prefer concentric. Most times (70%) I'm using the 9x8 and the 5" concentrics. Although last year I did grow a soft spot for the 10" football elliptical and that's a DD. Use that one about 20%-25% of the time. 8x11 RSD coil I only use 5%-10% of the time.
I will say it's nice in larger pasture fields and stuff though. And from a financial standpoint if you're going to get both anyway it's a better buy to buy the black vaquero with the 8x11RSD and buy the 9x8 on the side. The cost difference of the detectors is small compare to the cost difference between the coils separately. Hope that makes sense

Thanks for the replies. I sure would have made a mistake without them.

When I bought my Vaquaro it came with the 9x8 coil. I used it on a beach sanded hunt and it was unstable. The following year I bought the 11x8 coil and used it on the same hunt and it was much better. It was like using a different machine. I since bought the 5 3/4 coil and use it at parks in the tot lots and the 11x8 in the open areas. I have not used the 9x8 in a long time even after finding a nice 14k men's wedding ring. I have 3 coils and they all have a place.
