Black sand Merc today! :detecting:

Well, heres sort of a picture of the black sand we get here right at the waters edge. even though this is a fresh water lake, theres still black sand! It is hard to hunt, but I've been working this place all week and things have been washing out of the eroding bank...Got a nice gray Merc today, also pulled up some interesting signals amongst the iron, I have great faith in the Pro's ability to sniff through iron and sound off if theres a nonferrous tone in with it, shoulda took a pic of the primary targets in the scoop full of nails etc...it always amazes me.....then I went and cruised around checking the Sat Soccer events...evaluating the crowds, what they are wearing, wheres the heavy traffic, concessions, and all that, even the vehicles say alot about a persons alleged wealth, or at least credit worthiness! Took mental notes of where the likely gold wearers are set up on the sidelines for a raid at dawn tomorrow! Felt like a vulture circling high over head, my mercenary purpose for being there not noticed at all by the "droppers"...Also just cruised a bunch of sidestreets looking for tearouts and construction...all in all, so far, it was a good fun day, now its car work time, gonna change out the sway bar bushings in the Wifes rig...got some sort of clunk going on there. Hope y'all get out and put in a good hunt!:please: By gosh is this a great sport or what?:beers:

Pro is good at sniffing out good targets amoungst the trash. Find that behind the nets on sports fields are as good for hunting as the sidelines.

May your next dig be your best me bouy!

Stock big coil that came with the Pro, dgruff..11"? If a guy lowers sens, like 4 or 5 bars below Top dead center, and sort of "hovers" the coil, and goes really slow, seems to work in the heavy trash, with multiple targets under the coil, a fellows ears and CPU wear out after a short time though, for me, maybe an hour, even running iron audio "off" like I do. So when I find a good spot, I have to keep going back and working it in pieces!

When a guy gets out into deeper sand, clicking it up a few bars is easy enough, I try to stay on nonferrous targets on the hardpan...I like to run all my rigs soft if the situation merits...I've not run the Pro or any of my other rigs at full bore, too hot for me to handle!, and too much shallow trash, or black sand make it an unworkable mess..then again, I'm after gold/plat/silver...gold/plat/silver can work itself deep on account of its weight, but the pro has slap banged deep gold/plat/silver for me running soft...

It will NOT miss a gold/plat/silver ring for sure, gold/plat chains are another matter, a guy only gets about 4" on them if they are less than 20gr....but hey, most rigs will not pick up a chain scrubbed right up on the coil...I sure hate to sound like a shill, my pal up here Diggin-it convinced me to get one, you should see some of his youtube vids...(I remember that day well, when he came on here and posted a big Plat ring! I called Bart and ordered one immediately!) a guy just cant argue with results he and the rest of the early adopters were getting, to see all the finds posted after it was introduced, for a machine that can immediately pay for itself, this is the rig to buy...and I am a VERY ROI sensitive purchaser of all things...good Luck!

Very nice and informative post Mud, may the soccer fields yield much jewelry and clad for you to swoop down and feast upon tommorrow:crazy:

More great info...I sure appreciate it! And good luck in the morning! I've convinced my wife to go to a beach with me tomorrow in Oklahoma. We'll see how that goes, lol.

Nice work. You do put much thoughts and effort into it.

......those areas of black sand do pose a problem for hunting. That's why I always hunt parallel to a waters edge, ground ballancing only as conditions change, as they do around bodies of water.

Mud, you are pretty darn scientific in your recon! I hope you don't mind, but I passed your name along to George Clooney in case there's an 'Ocean's 14' in the works.
I agree re: ROI... my AT's have earned their keep many times over, and I don't find giant gold chains like some guys... :super:

Yep Mud, gotta do some recon to figure out where best to hunt. I like pulling into a sports field with over flowing garbage cans. Usually means cash transactions.
Pulled into one Sunday morning. Saturday night before, there was a flash thunderstorm. Left behind in the stampede was a nice glove & baseball. Know just the family who will take better care of them.
