Bitter sweet vacation

Well, I went on a short vacation but before I left, my Propointer switch broke and I had no time to send it for repairs or buy a new one (no local dealers). So I ran to Harbor Freight and got a cheap Centech pointer, packed my GT and off I went. In between sightseeing and exploring, I found an old town with a park in the middle. After inquiring about ordinances, I proceeded to detect. It was grueling. Lots of trash and clad (mostly zinc) peppering the surface. It hadn't rained in a while so the ground was hard, but worst of all the centech pointer sucked (to put it bluntly). However in the hour and a half that I hunted I found about a buck in clad and the pictured goodies. The Indian is 1897. The large one is an 1882 British half penny. When I dug the half penny I thought it was just another tarnished clad quarter. I didn't know what it was till I cleaned it today....makes for a nice surprise. I really wished I had my propointer, I would have stayed a lot longer. Next time I go back I will hunt that park till I collapse.

very good for a short hunt , looks like no one els hunted it to much , that brit penny is nice

Pretty good finds by my standards.. I have done much worse!!
Too bad your propointer broke on you.
I have gotten so used to having one, that if I try to find a target without it, it's like being blind trying to locate something.
Again, nice finds and congradulations!!
Felix

nice finds in a short amount of time....Looks very promising for more goodies! - Thanks for sharing - Jim

Thanks guys, sorry the pic is so dark. Looked good on my computer but I can hardly see it on the post. As you can see EP, the IH pennies come out of the ground looking slightly better than if they were made of iron and this is a better one than usual. The halfcent cleaned up really nice and looks as if it was sitting in a box accumulating its patina for a hundred years.

lol yep that little indian is a little rough. It is a really nice find though to see one come to the surface. I love finding IH cents. I can hit the enlarge feature here on the website so I can see the coins rather well. That half penny does look like it has been protected rather well from the elements. That lincoln cent looks like it is in really nice condition too. The majority of the lincoln cents I pull out are baked in a green glaze lol. Amazing how some coins can come out of the same area -some looking they got hit by acid and others unscathed.

Lsm,Nice finds. The Cen Tech is usually working decent or not at all.I use one with my 1235X and its not bad with the right adjustments. There is a small pot screw inside this will allow you to adjust the threshold down.I find without this adjustment on a hot day the pin pointer won't work no matter how low you adjust the sensitivity the unit will stay on.I find this pin pointer not bad for the price, but without a internal adjustment its useless.HH Ron
