Bit the bullet, and have a Deteknix XPointer on the way.

Silly me. I have used the Fisher PP (sucked) and then for the past year a TX2002 (sucks a little less).

I have watched the video's on this new PP, and am impressed with it's abilities, especially with it's lower cost over the major brands.

When I tried to buy one Friday, almost everyone was "sold out". I finally found one from someone less than 100 miles from me.

I'll let you know how it works out.

Keep us that use the Garrett Pro Pointer advised of how well it works. I would not want to try detecting without a good pin pointer. About a year ago I had to send my pro Pointer back for repairs. Went to Harbor Freight and bought one of their junkers. Took it out and it worked a little bit until the temperature got above 85 and then it would not quit screaming at me. Bought another Pro Pointer and when I got home mine was back from Garrett. They sent me my old battery compartment cap on a new pro pointer. HH

I have had mine a few weeks, it's not as heavy, works well...... but be warned, the pin pointer will be detected by your metal detector, move it away by at least 3 feet.

Also, the metal contacts that the battery makes contact with, one of mine had a bad solder joint, I had to fix that instead of sending it back for repair / replacement as it was an easy fix and I could not be without it.

Lots of misunderstanding with this. What Garretts does is replace the entire skin, not the entire pointer. If you look inside under the cap, you will read the same serial number that's on the old cap. Only thing new is the skin and the repairs on your old innards.

That explains why when i sent one in it came back looking brand new, but after a couple weeks it sucked again. Thank you for relaying that info.

I love my pro pointer, I bought the harbor freight pin pointer for people that go metal detecting with me so they can start least found what they dig. But the one from harbor freight screams at the ground on high sensitivity got to turn it down way low.

For $90 it is perfect. It is pulse induction. It works no less than 2" from the tip on a dime. Closer it is, the faster it beeps. 4 sensitivity settings by button (no knobs to get accidentally turned). Select tone, vibrate, tone and vibrate. Keeps selection in memory for when you turn it back on. Shuts off if not used after three minutes. Push the on/off button it's ready to go. Comes with holster and a landyard if you want to attach it to the holster. Comes with 4 caps. Does not false, no matter how much I push, shake, tap, etc. One piece and built sturdy.

I'm pleased if it lasts.

I to just purchased a xpointer. it's awesome!!!!!!!!! My garrett pp was a problem from day one they must have made it on a monday when someone was sleeping or hungover.

Garrett has great service! When I purchased my Etrac, the seller gave me a fairly new Propointer as part of the deal.I've used a Propointer for several years and knew what to expect, but the new one would start signaling when close to the ground and continue buzzing even when it was held in the air.I called the seller and he said it had always done that and he had wondered why people thought they were so great.I returned it to Garrett and they repaired it to where it performs like my old one.So, if you don't know better, you could have one that is defective and not realize it.

Before starting to hunt, turn on the xpointer then hit the noise cancel on the detector. Works for me on etrac and ctx.

I have owned two Garrett Pro pinpointers and a Bounty hunter PP. Now I have an XPointer and love it -- but one problem -- the screw cap is coming loose and the battery then acts like it is low or dying. Took me a while to figure out the screw cap was coming loose. I looked at the threads and they look fine, inside and out, but if I put the security ring on it acts like only about the bottom thread is catching the comes loose while using it. I took the security ring off and managed to get it to bottom out and tight. Hate the pastic threads anyway but they all have this design. Now, I have to find out where to send it for warranty service. If you 9 volt battery seems to be going dead prematurly you might want to check this screw cap. Other than that I love the Xpointer and it comes with a couple of extras that are really nice -- rubber end caps to protect the tip. You get two i the package so I put the extra on my Garrett. Next it comes with a Security ring and coil landyard, a nice touch especailly for me as I lost a Garrett pinpointer once -- don't ask, long story, but it can happen. Peace, Dan

Mine is the same way..and the one i had before the warranty replacement.. I used black tape on threads and that works..

........no problems, works great, does the job perfectly for me. If something went wrong with it or I lost it, I'd buy another one. For the price, it can't be beat.

I feel the same way. I unknowingly dropped mine in a field several months ago, and was about ready to give up searching for it when I thankfully found it. I would have easily purchased another one to replace it. Great price for what it does.
