Bireleys (soda?)

Hello,
My huband and I bought this place which had and old house on it well we tore it down and during the process came across a outside temperature thermometer appr. 2 ft. tall with a bottle of Bireleys printed on the front and believe it or not IT Still works, a little rusty but not extremely. So when did this soda and company exist and what happened to it?
