Was there much in the way of iron, specifically nails?
When you find a site this far out do you often find things like cast iron ovens, or other large iron?

many square nails are around the foundation itself...obviously that's where the walls & such rotted away & fell. Cast iron pot pieces scattered around are always common. Large iron items like iron tools, spikes, hinges, horseshoes, etc.....all that stuff. But I like preserving Colonial iron tools so we kinda dig some of that...plus it gets the large iron out of the way. One time I pulled out a big hinge & under it was hiding a nice British Copper......
