regarding a takeover of fisher by bounty hunter? i would rather have this (to me :) ) ... almost unbearable thought of a rumour confirmed or denied by someone who is more likely to know..i mean, nothing has been said on the fisher site and theres no discussions about it at the bounty hunter site,so im just hoping someone has forgotton when april 1st was :),but if its true...  :surrender:

also, its strange, that besides all the "rumour" postings posted on several boards, no one can actually link to a credible news article or whatever to confirm or deny it...

First Texas the parent company of Teknetics, and Bounty hunter.

This can be nothing but good news for Fisher people, because without it, they were in trouble. The present owner of Fisher, CoHo, did not want to hold on to the hobby division, and manufacture hobby metal detectors.

At least it was purchased by a company that has a strong interest in metal detecting. What would you rather see, the company being bought by MTD, AMF, or Toys are Us ?? Certainly Whites, Tesoro, and the rest were not in a position to do anything. The only company in the metal detecting industry with cash to spend is First Texas. All the more power to them.

Dave Johnson the designer of most of Fishers detectors, (CZ's, some 1200's), has been working for First Texas Teknetics division for the last couple of years. With this purchase I wouldn't be a be surprised to see him doing more designs for Fisher in the future.

Just one guys opinion.

Better you than me tackling that one ;)...& no, I'm not in the know on this. But, IF TRUE I agree w. what Mr. Bill said as it would be a shame to see the Fisher hobby name, the inventor of the modern detector in 1931, get dropped completely...
Besides if Tesoro ever bought it, me & TR would have to fight over who was gonna be the next "posterboy" :starwars:

Heheeee, just think about it, Fisher could be renamed to have "Texas" in the name, which I am sure you would love to hear. :)

Word is that First Texas is not content to be known for having "toy" type detectors only. They want to make a splash in the world of "professional/high-end detectors". I think we are seeing the beginnings of this with the Teknetics T-2. If Fisher was facing some problems, this solution sounds great. Who better to buy the company than someone who's fired up to be a top contender in the metal detecting world. We have to face the fact also that what turned most folks on to Fisher detectors in the first place was the CZ line. Dave Johnson was the brains behind the CZ's (and tons of others).. He now works for First Texas and has designed the T-2 (which most folks who have them seem to love)..

I know I'm restating a lot of what Mr. Bill said, but, I think Fisher fans should see this as good news. A financially sound company, dedicated to hobby detecting, with a engineer as well respected and pedigreed as Dave Johnson... how can we lose?

Just my humble opinion...

Imagine combining Dave J's knowledge, Fishers talented engineer if he stays on board and FT's $$. We could see some very interesting products in the future.

I agree with Bill and hope that FT keeps the Fisher line alive and seperate. It would be sad if they just bought FRL for their production facilities or if they stick the Fisher name on some mediocre products.

At this time its only speculation or rumoured that First Texas is going to buy out Fisher Hobby Division? Ron

I am considering purchasing an Edge or CZ-3D. One of the things that attracts me is the lifetime warranty. If First Texas nixes that then I guess I'll look at something else to augment my Explorer.

I've been hearing rumors about Fisher's financial difficulties for some time and watched as their model line has gotten smaller and smaller. Some of their most highly regarded machines are no longer on the line-up.

I'm glad a solution was found and that they're now owned by a company committed to making hobby detectors and with the funds to, hopefully, reverse the decline.
