Bill Ladd, First Texas and Fisher... (one guys opinion) (and probably too long)

I've sat back and watched the various threads on this forum come (and go :) ) with the interest you always have when a new detector is on the horizon. One of the truly fun parts of this hobby for me is the anticipation of a new machine being released... personally I get that "little kid at Christmas" feeling everytime!

One thing you can count on when a new machine is speculated on is "heated" exchanges. The F-75 is no different in that respect. We ALL have opinions. That's part of what makes life fun. We can agree on one thing...we will NEVER agree on everything :)

I just felt compelled to post a little about Bill Ladd. ( and no, he's not paying me :) I've never even met him) When I first got interested in the Coinstrike and started posting question on the C$ forum, he was always quick to respond with useful information. After I finally picked up my first C$, he (along with several other great folks) helped me stumble my way through the learning process of this unusual detector. They made the transition smooth and easy. If you read this Bill, thanks for all you've done for the hobby and hopefully will continue to do.

Bill has spent lots of time working with school groups, teaching a new generation about the joy of metal detecting. They also get to learn about history from some of the great finds he takes to show them.

I do believe if you cut Bill ladd, he would bleed Fisher black and gold. :) He has done tons of field tests, promotions, and magazine articles... always loyal to the Fisher heritage.

There's now a new chapter being added to the Fisher story...First Texas.
I hear a lot of folks quick to slam the changes, but for me, I'd rather have a new chapter than see the end of the book. For all intents and purposes, First Texas "saved" Fisher from ceasing to exist. As a company, all reports are they were losing money. Why? I don't know... I think they have great detectors. But, the fact remains they probably would have ended up in bankruptcy if something didn't happen. The "something" that happened is Dave Johnson and First Texas. In my humble opinion (and you know what they say about opinions :) ) they rode in on a white horse and saved the day.

Will we, the end-users, like everything we see from the new Fisher? I highly doubt it. However, they seem to be very responsive to feedback from the user community and more than willing to try their best to give us what we want. Call me an eternal optimist, but I think we could very well see some great things to come from the new Fisher...

Mark, Well said,I think the last few days everyone was just blowing off a lot of steam. Everything seems to be sorting it self out at this point. On the positive side First Texas has a Fisher division, and hopefully the first product launch will be a success. But the new product will have to include two elements quality and customer enthusiasm. :fisher:You guys just better hope that First Texas doesn't do to Fisher what AMF did to Harley Davidson....Of course 10 years or so down the line when the "Employees" bought it back They redesigned it & look at the results..A MUCH nicer machine...IMHO:argue:

The Evolution Engine did help revived the Harley Corp, but the government stepped in and put a (import restrictions)level playing field in place.Like my CZ5 the old iron head is doing fine.

Where all here to enjoy this Hobby, when someone is trying to help you understand alittle more about a detector, like Bill has done in the past and still doing today,we all should appreciate it.I hope Bill gets a field test going on the F75 pretty soon, look forward to reading it,Take Care.

MARK: I absolutely agree with you, thanks for an exclent post. I like you am glad to see a new chapter in the Fisher book, rather than the end of what I consider to be an excellent line of detectors. I believe that First Texas with Dave Johnson, who helped design many of the Fishers now being used, and other good engineers, will keep the quality of the Fisher line intact. I tend to view the armchair experts, making negative statements about any detector that they have never seen or used, to show how expert they really are.

I agree also. I don't own a Fisher but have respect for their detectors. I think most are interested in the new Fishers coming out and want to see them in action. There are some good engineers designing them so there is good reason to believe the Fisher tradition will carry on.

the one thing that AMF did for HD was enabled it to survive. Without that, the better things to come that we all enjoy today with Harleys most likely not have happened. I'll probably never really know how close to pulling the plug FRL (although I'm quite sure if FRL only had the hobby division to make or lose money, they WOULD have gone out of business) was but FT has without a doubt breathed new life into it. AMF was merely a recreational related conglomerate that wanted a piece of the profits from the motorcycle industry without having any first hand interest in using and developing the product. I believe there is plenty of evidence to think that FT is financially capable and really serious about delivering good things to the hobby segment. Granted, we evaluate AMF's buyout in hindsight, and the FT impact remains in the future, but I really do think there is a lot of reasons to be more optimistic about the FT/FRL venture than the AMF/HD thing.

Oh NO Does that mean we are going to have to pay 3 times what a detector is worth....Oh goodness when are these new Harley Davidson Detectors coming to market! I Can't wait!
