An incredible find of Anglo-Saxon gold of the finest workmanship was just announced. It was in a Staffordshire field, found by Terry Herbert with a metal detector. Naturally the make/model is not mentioned. BBC has a good article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/staffordshire/8272058.stm
In raw weight, it is staggering - 5kg./12lb of gold and 2.5kg/6lb of silver, much of it of the very best workmanship. As a gold find, may be more important than Sutton Hoo. Anyone know more about the METAL DETECTORING aspects of the find?
