Bigger Coil? 10X12 SEF or S-12?

After being resigned to the fact for years that in my ground most standard VLF detectors will only get X=deep on coin size targets and no more along comes the Sovereign. Now I'm ruined. I'm turning into a depth junky. For beach hunting and occasional land hunting in cleaner sites which of the above coils would work best as far as depth and or target separation. I'm less concerned about coverage. I have the 10 inch Slimline so I'm wondering if there is any or at least enough depth increase to justify even adding one of these coils. I read somewhere that the SEF is a hybrid coil that is part DD and part Concentric whatever that means. Thanks!

What I've found in my reseach on the web is this...I was interested in the SEF 10x12 coil but not now. The "official" field test found that the 10x12 is deeper than the 12x15 on smaller coins and matched it on large ones, so the 12x15 is past the point of dimension returns size wise on coins. Rumor has it that these coils work much better on the Explorer line but not as well on the Sovereigns. Also that they can be unstable and a bit fussy at pinpointing. Now, there are a few people who say otherwise so decide for yourself with more research. I think they might seperation targets better than the WOT but then again they don't have the legendary reputation of the WOT pulling coins on edge or in iron...yet. I think I came to the conclusion that they weren't as deep than the WOT on coins, but I may be wrong. I also hear they are heavy, but I don't know if they weigh as much as the WOT.

For me it then comes down to either the Sunray 12" or WOT. Some say they match in depth, while others say the WOT is slightly deeper. Most agree the Sunray seperates targets better. Sunray is much lighter, even than the 10" Tornado I think. Sunray pinpoints well, though I haven't heard the WOT is hard to pinpoint with. If I was beach hunting or wide open field hunting mostly and the trash level was on the low side I'd probably opt for the WOT. On the other hand, since most of my spots have some degree of trash and I don't often find myself in an open field, I figured the Sunray will be my choice. Others may disagree and feel free to set me straight since I'm only reading others opinions thus far here.

Ask the people that use them on the beach and i can almost garantee they will all say the SEF, doesn't matter what anyone wrote its much better for me and my zone to the point that i'm thinking of trashing my garantee on the Excalibur to put one on( still got 18months of the 2 year i got)

Thanks Kered. I was leaning that way if for no other reason than it being a hybrid of sorts from what they say and it might just be different enough to add something over the standard 10 inch besides size.

I can't say on the SEF but If you can handle the weight and the trash isn't too thick. In my mind there's only one word for depth "Wot". Thing is you can pick up a used one for a good price and if you don't like it, it will sell. I tried the S-12 but in my ground the Wot was deeper. I don't use it that much because of the weight and size but I like having it just in case I need it.
