Bigfoot coils

Can anyone explain why these coils command so much money? I happened to be lucky enough to sell two (one for the dfx/mxt and one for the xlt). Both went for what I would consider nearly insane amounts. I kept one for myself for my qxt. I air tested it and it is able to get a quarter at 5" on my detector. It also picks up a small 10k hoop earing at an inch with ID (an earing my cz's and atpro struggle with). I'm excited as I hunt a few places where concerts are held in fields. I've done well there with stock coils and with this coil I'm hoping I'll be able to sweep up the coins and jewelry...Anyone have any real world experience with them are they really that good?

There is no better coil to cover lots of ground quickly, lightweight and 18 inches of coverage every swing............. Even the people who pay $500 for the coil quickly recovers their expense hunting sports fields and beaches. Being a DD type of coil you don't have to overlap either, so that is 3 feet of coverage every full swing you do and since you are not hunting deep, you can swing the coil as fast as you want and you can hunt all day long with it being so light. My wife and I have found over $60 a day hunting sports fields many, many times back in the day when we went "cladding".

Yeah, I lucked into the coils. I am having trouble sleeping just waiting to try it out. Once I found out what they sell for I sold 2 and kept this one. During my testing it is amazing to see that the entire length is working with the same depth. I'm a treasures can be found on dusty shelves too. I've watched some videos on the tesoro version and it doesn't seem like they get the depth, like 3-3.5 in the air. I am being conservative with 5" on my qxt in the air. But, who knows I may have to adjust the sensitivity, etc in the real world for stability. I wonder what happens if you get a tab and a quarter under it at the same time. I'll have to test and see when the snow melts. I love to find stuff, old is good, but having a bucket of spending money is nice, too. I may have to change my name to the "cladiator" when I get up and running!

Too bad they don't make them anymore. It's a shame, because the price keeps going up when you look for one to buy.
Would have put some of the coil makers out of business.
I 've managed to get a couple of them for my Whites V3i. Work great in 3-freqency mode, and better depth when used with single frequency, up to 10 inches with program tweaking.
Sure are coin coins sweepers. Pay for themselves in no time.
A word of caution. Do not bump them hard, or the internal coil wire will snap and you will get a useless coil. Seems after the wires were wound they encased them in glue which hardens over time. This puts a strain on the windings any any substantial bump will cause a break. This makes the coil go into overload and is useless. Maybe someone can figure out how to repair them.
Also these coils are not waterproof.

There is someone who repairs the Bigfoot coils, you might have to do a search (DFX forum for sure), and the coils ARE waterproof if the seal has not been broken or loose........ but they are very buoyant and not a good choice for water hunting anyway.

If you can't find the repair guy call Jimmy Sierra detectors, he knows the guy.

I recently bought an advertised DFX-bigfoot coil new with cover and paperwork off flea Bay, and payed the 550.00 premium. When it arrived the coil was for the 6.59 MHz machines instead.(usually going for around 225.00). Instead of dealing with the hunyuk I bought it from, I wanted to keep it since it was unfired. So instead, I also recently bought a IDX pro and it works fine, but I like a little more info from a detector than just Beep, like the IDX does. I did try it on my V3i with some success, in both 3 frequency and single frequency. Wasn't too impressed but I didn't know how to tweak it, like Mladiman spoke about. I'd love to get a step by step instruct on that please! I mean in layman's terms. I usually get lost when someone starts speaking in electrical engineering terms. I will say that when I use the IDX Pro with it, it does get +5" depth with sensitivity cranked up and discrimination on 0. But you also pick up every little piece of metallic slaw when you do. Hope this helps others who have the addiction as bad as I do, now go get you some!

You'll notice that with the BigFoot on the IDX Pro you'll get a single beep on the front half of the coil and a double beep on shallow targets on the back half of the coil. No biggie as you just have to slide the coil back when you get a signal and pinpoint off the front of the coil. The BigFoot is very sensitive to small targets and is great in tot lots for that reason. It will pick up earring backs and diamond stud earrings very well. Small charms etc. are easy pickins with the BigFoot.

I sold one a long time ago for $50 dollars.............LOL...............

The one I kept for myself has a gap where it looks like the seam wasn't closed. Plan on using some silicone to fill it in. Does anyone know if the tesoro clean sweep was made by the same company? I may buy an xlt just to try with this coil...Hard to find much info on the qxt pro, but the times I've used it I enjoyed it. Some of the places I go aren't old so the finds are shallow and plentiful. I'm getting cabin fever with the winter weather and pumped about getting out on some large areas where people have gathered to watch fireworks. Also glad to see some responses to my post!

The Bigfoot coils for the White's detectors were made by Applied Creativity, I believe Tesoro makes their own coils.
