Had our club hunt last Sunday and the weather was just beautiful. A little frost on the pumpkin, but when the sun finally got up past the trees it was very nice and I ended up taking my jacket off. We have had a very mild winter here in Wa.state and not getting all the snow you fellows are getting back east. Had our share of rain, but wet ground makes for easy digging and brings out the silver tones as we all know. I think this is the biggest turn out we have had at this place and there were at least twenty people here. Funny how a little sunshine will bring them out. We have hunted this place six times now and with all the silver coins that were found in past hunts here combined with good weather I would not have missed this hunt. I did have a nasty cold, but I was bound and determined to make this hunt. Most of us were hunting this one grassy area and without much luck and getting tired of bumping into other people I walked over to this area where a couple of cabins were with Lee on my tail. After a little bit I got my first signal and as soon as I turned over my plug Lee was right behind me looking over my shoulder and out pops my first merc. Not long after that I get another merc and just a short time later I get this sweet sound eight inches down and I knew it was big silver. Dug my plug and on my second scoop of dirt I saw the edge and knew it was a silver dollar. Wiped off the dirt and she was a 1889 Morgan. After I was sure that I didn't crap my shorts I held her up for Lee to see and he came running over and the high fives were flying. I was hoping to find a CC mint mark, but no such luck and I ain't complaining. At our lunch break and show and tell Lee jokingly made a comment that I needed a ride home because I wasn't riding with him. My take on the day were two 43 mercs, a 54 rosie, a 51 wheat, a no date buffalo nickle and the 1889 Morgan. The other stuff in the picture I got on another hunt. Lee got three or four merc's, a war nickle, two buffs and some wheaties. Another member got two real nice WLH's and there were two gold rings found. Not sure what the total silver count was, but there were at least twenty that I know about. A good day was had by most of us and once again it just goes to show that a place is never completely hunted out. Glad to share this with all of you and I hope you fellows who are still snow bound can get out real soon. Nothing worse then cabin fever. Thanks for looking and HH.
