Big Silver Sunday

It was a beautiful weekend here getting up into the mid 60's. I didn't have any time to go out until late Sunday afternoon. My little girl and I headed to a spot that I had found a few silver dimes at last year. We didn't have much time to hunt and I wasn't expecting much, but was just glad to be out. We found a few wheaties and then a Rosie. I got a 12-40 signal and thought it would be a screw cap but when I turned the plug over it was a penny, nickel and silver sandwich. That was a fun surprise! It was just about dark when I decide to hit the edges before heading home. About a foot from the curb but close to an old maple tree, I got a very nice 1-46 2-46 signal but was shallow. I was hoping for a half but was expecting a crushed can. Cut my plug and scooped out the dirt between all the roots and out came that Big Silver coin! That was an awesome surprise! It was caked with dirt so we cleaned it up a little and revealed a nice 1935s Walker. HH David

Very nice Dave. My Sunday/Monday consisted of another 8" of snow. Glad someone can get out and hunt! What coil do you use for all your great finds?
Great job!

Thanks Whitetail! I have been using the Ultimate 13 90% of the time for the last year. I love the ground coverage and to be a large coil it has great separation. It handles the trash very well.

Do you think it is that much better than the stock? Also...would you say it is better than the smaller coils? I've looked at that one and have considered it.

The stock coil is great. The Ultimate is just as great with more depth. As far as a small coil goes, I use the 6x8 SEF and the SunRay X5 and love them in the really trashy spots. There are almost too many coil options for the Etrac but there is a lot of good ones out there. Makes it hard to decide.

good stuff as usual.....!!!! That Ultimate is a nice one isn't it! For some reason I don't seem to get along all that well with the Pro? Could possibly just be that I've spent the least amount of time with it? That ultimate has snagged me a couple deep paper thin barbies on edge? Coinsidence.....I don't know? Anyways....I got em and everyone else missed em over the yrs.....lol

Looks like our "Pineapple Express" is gonna continue and maybe start clearing up tomorrow into the weekend? Never thought I'd be tecting in MT. in the middle of Feb.....!!! Hoping to get out again......

PS....your sanwich coins...... My 1st "wow...this etrac is amazing" moment came early on and I'd got a signal not too deep that would bouce back and forth between a texbook zinker and a clad dime over and over again. Dug it up and there was a zinc penny stacked on top a clad dime... Thought that was kinda cool and impressive.

Your off to a great start this season - keep up the good work ! :detecting:

Nice half dollar! Makes me want to get out but I will have to wait awhile.
Your take on the ultimate coil is similar to mine. I have noticed cases where I get a little more depth out of the ultimate coil. The stock coil is excellent also and has surprised me numerous times.
Ive been detecting lately without a detecting harness so im not dependet on that. Ive been sticking with the stock coil just because it is a little lighter.

Great finds Dave! Thanks for the pictures.
