Big problem with ATX !!

Ron Lord

New member
My big problem with my ATX is that I am starting to leave targets in the ground. I had to give up on 3 targets today because they were to dam deep. When your is 3 feet across, you standing in 4 foot of water and your hole is 2.5 feet deep , it's time to give the target up. !!

Ahhhhh, the first question to establish how good that detector really is by many is "HOW DEEP DOES IT GO?" Your post should put a few curious minds to rest and instill some fear into others.

The ATX goes mercilessly deep, and also finds the absolute smallest filiments of metal. I always have to run it with a bit of discrimination, it only takes a couple of foot deep tail light bulbs to get you sick of digging them. I also had a recovery where i was chasing a small wire shard down an ever increasing hole.

The ATX also can find very small items through multiple feet of piled rocks, found the rim of a tin can at the bottom of a big rockpile i was scanning for meteorites. What a labour intensive dig that was  .

IF the ATX was only 5 pounds heavier, both of my biceps would be equal. I also have left a few targets for other days when the sand moves on.

Too Funny ... now you guys know why I quit scooping after 16". I have found most items deeper than 16" is larger / denser than a quarter or ring which is my target size to scoop.

What scoops do you use and what are your favorites? I personally have 2 of them, one being a RTG scoop 6" and a stealth scoop that can dig a lot of ground.

Can you take a picture of what they look like?

Thanks

As pictured below ... I use a stainless swing scoop in the dry / damp sand for fast retrieves and fast sand drainage.

And a step-on scoop in the wet sand and water for scooping deep.
