Big Lake Buffalo!

Late last night the wind switched and knocked the Big Lake flat! Its been howling onshore for the past few days and really took a lot more sand out...[attachment 313480 may20-15-1.jpg]

Look at this interesting strata, its been buried for who knows how long?[attachment 313481 may20-15.jpg] A guy hopes to come across what used to be an old beach blown out down to the hardpack...

I will say this, these tall banks are very unstable, every so often, a whole section slumps off like a glacier! "Whump!" So I'm getting a bit nervous being up so close even for a picture...and for sure dont want one to slump off and bury my rig while I'm taking a picture!

I found this stuff...[attachment 313484 may20-15-2.jpg][attachment 313485 may20-15-3.jpg] Then just like that, around 11am, the wind switched and came out of the NNW hard and cold and mean and it was time to go!....

It changes so fast and so often, all a guy can hope for is to be in it on a morning like this...right after a big couple day onshore blow, and before it all caves in again....its hard to 'plan' a hunt for this lake in advance, a guy just sort of has to go when conditions are right, which is seldom...

Mud it looks like you had a pretty good day. I always love finding those Buffalo Nickels! I can remember my parents showing me my first one when I was around 5 or 6 years old. Every since then, I think of them and that moment in time when I find one. Those Buffalo Nickels and animal cookies went over really big with me back then.

Mud, opportunity favors the skillfull, nice hunt.

Man, makes you wonder how deeep the silver is. Nevertheless every target is an adventure.
Mud, you ever get to any competition events? What about hooka or diving ? Not that the weather's been great.

Hey Dancer, No, I have not attempted either yet...just working these big Lake MI cuts to no avail and a little inland park hunting...I really need to drop what I'm doing and try both Hookah and a Comp hunt this year though, thanks for the reminder! I just got home from another long march with waves onshore today...they dont look like much in the pic, but they make a furious longshore rip and hard hunting all the more harder! I'm worn out and its not even 9am!:lmfao:

I'm happy to see your aware of the dangers ........... Nice finds..and please continue to be careful.

Yeah, Elton.
I have great respect and love and fear of this Big Lake! So far, it has claimed 2 of my cousins!...

Its a lot like my Wife of 35+yrs...might be nice one day and angry the next! You just never know from day to day what mood either of them will be in!...a guys gotta work it, time it, and be very careful on both counts!....

Between the two, I'm not decided on who's arms I would prefer to meet my untimely but impending demise embraced in....probably the Lake, in my experience with both, it would be gentler, and at least I may have a fighting chance! Either way, I have it coming and deserve it..:sadwalk:....:heh:

God !! That lake is as big as the sea off the north coast of Spain ... or more ... I find it so strange ...
Thanks for sharing Mud, you always make me laugh lol

That sand cut is amazing. Nice finds and love the Buff. A Buffalo nickel is on my wish list and I don't rule it out completely. Jim TN was kind enough to offer me one a while back but it just isn't real to me unless I find/dig it, if you know what I mean. Nice gesture though.
