Sunday I went back to my overgrown, trashed out area (see my 2/22/10 posting). Imagine in the fading light seeing the glint of gold against the black earth in the hole. Almost loaded my pants.
I could't see the details in the dark - but it was heavy ! When I got home and opened it up - 14K GOLD FILLED !! DARN!!
Did ok otherwise : 1905 Indian, shield nickel ( date to be determined), six wheaties, and a small silver ring. Three of the wheaties came in a small spill - intersting thing was the consecutive dates:
1919, 1920, 1921. The other three wheaties were 1911, 1923, and 1938. No big shakes but an interesting hunt.
I'm shootin' for pre-seated silver this year !!
